I'm starting to draw up my own tracked rc design in a 3dsoftware program called Solidworks, ill be showing pics soon. Who else around here is making their own tank designs? The HL tanks are cool and all but there's got to be more going on here then that =P

O idk, I haven't been around these forums since last year but glancing around now I don't see anything custom, just the same old WWII stuff

The problem is that new tanks are coming out faster then we can buy and convert them.
Well it's not really a problem but but whats the point in starting a scratch build if someone's going to release one before you finish.
Some time ago I started a scratch built Jagdpanther then Tam brought out their Panther, great because know I'll have the proper tracks etc. But then they went and released a Jagdpanther [:@] and now HL have one. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

The reason WWII tanks are so popular is that they were used the most in real tank battles, and since the very first IR tanks were WWII, manufacturers have stuck with what sells. I think once the ice is broken and more modern tanks are produced, then modern IR battles will slowly become popular.
I do have a handful of modern tanks I'd like to own myself.

Most of us are here because we like WW2 armor but you'll find us a pretty open group. Just make sure to put tracks and a big gun on it.

Im working on a 1/6th scale WW1 Renault Ft-17, ive kinda taken a break due to writting more papers than i can count [:@]and of course spring break,
but im hoping on getting some work done on it in the near future, so theres a few other things going on other than the HL, but then again my renault has a HL power and drive system...

Well what I got in mind is a modern/slightly futuristic tank, not planning to arm it with anything, im going for more of off road capabilities and toughness, something unique. Custom as in your own work and design that has not been done before.
Like one idea that just popped into my head is like a firetruck tank or something that you can drive into water to refill a tank and on top is a controllable turret with a powerful water jet or something like that lol idk
Or even a Tracked body with a crane on top that can pick up things and place them on a attached tracked trailer or something. I not that big on warfare type of things (even though I'm in a modern warship combat group lol)

There are photos extant of a Panther with a crane on it used in a French port after the war. For fire truck and such, Robbe makes some equpment such as pumps and water cannons. Interesting projects. Lots of support vehicles are out there to model.

there are drawings and artist conceptions of the E series (Panzers) tanks that the Germans were notionalizing at the end of WWII. A google search will bring you to them. Also you might take a stab at a Jagdpanther II which was also a study but never accomplished. All the great powers had design concepts for modern armor that never made it to the factory floor or final production. you could have some fun with that.
