Default gearboxes - what a palarvour

Well I finally killed my Tigers replacement metal gearboxes (ran dry on the right hand one and knocked all the teeth off the final gear!), so after a period of inactivity I ordered some new ones off the bay. I thought that rather than replace just one it would be better to match them and do them at the same time. I couldn't believe it when they arrived. I could tell right away that they had been assembled wrong. The frames were bowing outwards and both were nearly locked solid. Suffice to say I ended up using bits from the old gearboxes to get them right.

Anyone else had these Friday night gearbox problems?

In the future I will point you to the right place to by your motor and any RC tank supplies.. go here http://www.rccommand.com/index.php Bill checks all his parts before shipping so you don't get stuck with problems like you just had. Sounds like the person you bought those from put them together and did not know what they were doing.

it wasn't just a case of assembly issues. The bearings that the gears run on were made too long so that when the frames were bolted together they were locked together by the inside edges of the bearings. I ended up swapping the old gearbox bearings for the new ones.

Sounds like what they sent you were not even HL gearboxes (not made by them).HL gearboxes are not the best..but I have not seen any with that kind of problems..a few with bad motors but not wrong bearings

it doesn't really matter. Once I'd tinkered with them they work really well. Just wondered if others had the same problems before.

Most of my ebay purchases are from Welsh Dragon Models.
