RE: Rusty tracks for my Jagdpanther
You only need to add rust if the tank has sat for a long period of time like weeks or months without moveing. Take a look at a bulldozer that is constantly being used .... do you see any rust on the track? very doubtfull as with the track moving the dirt and sand keeps the tracks free of rust. On the side that the road wheels run on would be quite shiney as they say and the out side of the track might have mud or dirt still clinging to it till it started to run on a paved surface then the rotational forces would fling the dirt and mud off. This is just my observations of the real things

Don't put rust on the track. Unless it has been sitting at a museum or on deadline in a motor pool for weeks, steel tracks will not rust. Any accumulated rust after sitting for a few days will be gone a mile down the road. A tank constantly on the move with steel combat track will often have a problem with the track actually being too shiny. The M-46 on my avitar was mine in korea. Note the tracks after a couple months running.

I see some over-do the rust on the tank it's self. Some I've seen look like they have sat in scrap yard for years to accumulate that much rust

Roger PzWest,
The only thing holding it together was x coats of paint, bailing wire and rust in the bolts. This photo was taken at -35 F. I was driving at the time and got out, snapped a shot and got back in. Last shot before the shutter froze. The '46 was a very reliable tank, excellent gun and had an engine with lots more ooomph than the Pershing's 490 HP ford. Most of that "rust" you see is simply frozen on mud.
