DAK IS BACK!

I'd use a pinion gear puller like this http://cgi.ebay.com/GWS-MINI-MICRO-P...item3ef67efbeb to safely remove pinions. They should have them at your LHS too.
To remove and replace a stock Tamiya pinion, I use my gear puller to remove it, and then simply press the pinion back on the new motor. I start the pinion on the shaft by hand, and then once it is started, tap it with a hammer while holding the motor. Take care not to bang too aggressively with the hammer, or you'll ruin the bearings. Lots of little taps... I also don't put the motor up against anything solid when I do it, hold it with your off hand.
They'll be people who say don't do that...but I've been doing it that way for many years now with good results. If you're paranoid about breaking it, put the motor in the freezer overnight (that will shrink the shaft) and heat the pinion with a micro-torch (that will make the hole larger) to make it fit together better. Green Loc-tite works wonders if the gear doesn't fit too snugly. I'll have my gear puller at battleday, and I can show you how I do it in about 3 minutes if you'd like.

Thanks Jeff, I have a gear puller...the last time I used a vice to put on the pinion, needless to say I ruined the motor. I'll try your hammer method when my Speed 400 motors come (I only needed one).

The weather report for Saturday looks perfect. Temp will start out in the low 70’s and top out in the high eighties. Sunny skies with the wind between three and five mph from the southwest. Remember to bring a hat and some shade.
It’s going to be gorgeous so be there or be square!

Had a wonderful time everyone! Weather was great with some clouds to cool us down after the hot battles, and there were some intense battles going. I had a great time, I think some people already hate my Jagdpanther (Joseph)
I can't wait for the next one! I'm already tinkering with the Panther and Jagdpanther to make them more efficient killers. I also can't wait to see the Bastogne Shermans when their done.

I just want to say thanks to all of the DAK crew and guests for a super day. I had more fun than a person could be allowed on a Saturday! Thanks to Dave and Aimee for cooking up the BBQ. I hope some of the visitors have decided to join us full time. The field was in super shape. Thanks to Ethan and Craig for the prep work there.
The axis team was very strong this time, dominating most of the battles. The Allies did show some flashes of future resurgences. Hopefully the new Bastogne platoon will help even things out. Aimee’s new M4A3E8 and Duane’s Jadpanther both ran very well and looked great. The ex-Duane, ex-Craig Panther appears to have been captured by the Russian and is now under Joseph’s control. It looks kind of weird as a member of Team Green, but is still a strong battle unit.
It looks like the next event will be on Saturday Nov. 21, so start planning. I can’t wait.
