Default New here

hi everyone. I just joined the group and purchased an HL Tiger 1 which is on the way to me now. I am an automobile specialist in NJ and always need to find something new to modify. I've spent hours on the web trying to find information on thwese tiny terrors and I stumbled on this site. I would like to make it as durable and realistic as possible so any input is welcome. I also need some help with painting ideas ie. types of paint to use and colors for theTiger. Thanks in advance.

Welcome Yellow... you'll love the Tiger! Lots of mod possibilities. Depending on what you want to spend, the Asiatam metal hull is a worthwhile investment. Comes with lots of other metal parts and really beefs up the Tiger. Check out RC Command. Bill's a great guy and has lots of Tiger extras...

http://www.rccommand.com/

I've got two and am totally rebuilding one to be a late model Tiger, and a King Tiger on the way. Here's some of the stuff I started with, and metal tracks are a big improvement and add a good amount of weight to the tank. Mines not finished yet, but sitting at about 12 pounds with the metal hull, wheels, etc. If you go heavy, a cooling fan is a must or you'll overheat and blow the electronics. Use the search box at the bottom of the page - there is a ton of information hidden within this forum. If you can't find an answer just ask - someone knows the answer and will help you out. They are fun to play with, and inexpensive to fix if something goes wrong.

Enjoy the Tiger and welcome to the forum!

True That!

One just won't do. Using my super Nostradamus power I predict that you shall have no less than 3 tanks in six months. Huummmmm I see a TIGER...........a KV-1....and it's getting clearer...yes I see it! A King Tiger!

I can also tell sports scores before they happen. I have ESPN

Welcome Brother!!!

Ern I have the bucket. But what Idon't know is what in the world did they use it for? I could use that in the book also.

Paint?

Water?

Oil?

Porta Potty?

Rations?

All the Above?

Any ideas?

Pretty much All of the Above Don from what I've read and heard on here. There always seems to be one hanging off the back somewhere in the pics

Thanks for the warm welcome guys. I plan to do the metal hull, metal road wheels, 3:1 gear reduction and maybe the creeping death turret I read about. I am very green though and definitely not sure of much when it comes to these tanks. I was wondering if I need to upgrade the motors to run the gear reduction properly. If so what do you recommend? I have to ask this too. Beaing that I too have esp and fully realize this is the first of many to come in my tank collection, is the King Tiger much different from the Tiger 1? And does HL also make one? Oh hell, I need an american tank next guys. I think....

If you are an auto enthusiast then hopefully Yelloshaker refers to the Hemi Cuda in your garage.

Don, I thought you were a tanker? [X(] Every tank carries a bucket....WW II many carried the fold away canvas, but most also carried the galvanized iron bucket,(after 1950 everyone) normally hung onto the tow hooks or lifting eyes at the rear...or off the rear of the turret. Secured by a short rope around the wire handle.

Use;[/b] fill with solvent to clean MGs, tools, swabbing out gun tube. Soap & water or solvent (or gas) to clean breech block, turret walls, ammo wells. Hang inside turret with ice and German Bier, Korean OB Beer, Japanese Asahi Biru. Use inside turret to wash down ready rack and other exposed ammo. Fill with water, warmed on engine deck for the manadatory monthly face & hands wash. In very cold weather use it for the Army three stage field bath. stage 1; wash down as far as possible, stage 2;, wash up as far as possible, stage 3; wash possible. Not only German tanks carried buckets...it was/is a standard item for every US and other nations tanks as well, issued or individual purchase.(or moonlighte requisition ) If on the move, unable to stop and someone HAS to go...bucket also has other uses.

Thanks again guys. I placed an order with rccommand last night which includes the lower hull with steel road gears, 3:1 steel drive, a cooling fan, and some other misc. things. I need to find the drive bearings to reinforce the driveline. Welshdragon is out of stock right now.
One question about the tracks...Are the metal tracks, drive wheels, and idlers up to par or should they be changed?</p>

The metal tracks that come on it are OK. They are not as high of quality as the impact tracks but they will work fine. Pins work their way out for some but mine are 2 yrs old and fine.

Yea, Iread about the pins somewhere. Someone said he applied a light coat of primer and that solved the problem. I am going to try to get this thing together and hopefully have a nice piece to display and use. I didn't realize how heavy these things can be with metal upgrades. Someone said his tank was in the area of 20 lbs.

Hey Yellow shaker I am from NJ alsdo. Bob the commander Helde is reforming the old Queens Panzer Div. It will now be called N.E.A.D. North East Armored div. We will have a 100x 80 foot outdoor battle field with enclosed storage and work space for our tanks. i believe it is at an already established RC park , near Paramus NJ. You should look up in Yahoo groups QueensPanzer Div. N.E.A.D.. I just joined the group and plan on joing this club, check it out.
