Default Control problem

I'm in a robotics club at my school, and we have run into a problem, we are in a a competition called TOBOR (it's just ROBOT backwards, I dont know why), we are using a system that was not designed to be remotely controlled. The only thing we cant get to work is our drive motors, we have a tank setup and I thought this would be the best place to go for advice. What we have is two can motors linked to a planetary gear-box(around a speed 400, it doesn't specify), I was thinking if we could get two RC car ESC's, we could drive the motors off the reciever like servos. Do you guys think it will work, and if you dont, what else could we do? We're using a Futaba 2.4ghz 6-channel aircraft radio. The fastest I think these motors could go is 90RPM, so the current draw wont be too high. I've been involved in RC for 8 years, so I'm no noob to this stuff. (So you dont have to over-simplify things for me )

Look at the "Sabertooth" ESC, not tank drive, sorry. You probably should run a surface frequency; 75Mhz or 27Mhz, or one of the new 2.4GHz radios.

These look very promising! Our robot only weighs about 3 pounds (right now anyway), so the Sabertooth looks like it would be a great choice! Really appreciate it! I cant wait till High School when I can start on 30-50 pond ones!

I dont think running the 2.4ghz  radio for an aircraft would be any different from running a 2.4ghz surface radio, I've used my DX6 for a couple airboats. And the programing will be easier for me and  better suited for this paticular setup.
