Default Repairing the front shackles

While the tank was on the bench, it was time to fix those broken shackles, luckily i had all the pieces to fix it and drilled holes to add small pins to help strengthen them. when that was done i added the pins to the front to help with some added strength, i hope. I didn't add the front track holder as i didn't have the right brass in the proper thickness. I might tackle that at a later date. With all the work in the gearboxes and fixing the front, this is ready for May!

Looks good. Hopefully, the repairs will hold out. If not, Asiatam makes cast metal shackles that might work for you. http://www.asiatam.com/product_info....z-iv-1-16.html

If you don't have brass in your LHS, I recommend www.specialshapes.com.

yea, and i am not the best driver either, i tend to find those boulders rather easily! i am still shocked at how much the metal tracks have worn. The innermost cleat is gone. I wonder what they will look like after this season.

Default New Track shoes

Well, i have been debating about changing the tracks for a while, you might have seen my post about asking about the Ostketten tracks, well....
before the new shoes

And here are the new tracks shoes mounted, i am really liking the look, initial road test was good, we shall see how they do at Danville in about 3 weeks

pretty cool, a chip in the rubber might need to get some new rubber!

They are asiatam's brand track and fit the Tamiya Sprockets. They are a bit heavier than the Impacts i had on there, but then again i was a bit too fast, so maybe these will slow the tank down a bit. Dave, are you going to be at Danville this month?

It is not looking good for this month for full participation in the event.
I may be able to come by for a short time on Sat afternoon or Sun.

It is my Dads 80th birthday, and he will be in town that weekend.
On Saturday morning, we will be going to the Transportation Museum in Spencer, NC.
I bought him a ticket to drive a (real) steam train for 1/2 hour!

I think i will be fixing the front spare track holder that broke off a few years back, more to come on that later.

Dave, sounds like a fun weekend planned!

Depending how old and worn out you want your tank to look; a chip in the rubber might be a good thing...
Look at this video in the segment from 41 to 44 seconds...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7rZuURtYpHM

i realized i misspelled Danville in my post! it's fixed now.

I do like the weathered combat look, more so than the new off the production line or the rust bucket look. And i doubt i will replace that little chipped up tire, i think it looks cool.

Just finished installing the the rack for stowing the track on the lower front hull. I think it came out pretty good.

some screws used for the stowage rack.

Rack installed and painted

Finally installed and completed.

Looks good. I can see why many would misidentify as a Tiger I. With the wide ostketten from the front it looks the part.

Default New P4 Tracks at Danville

The Panzer IV drove well with the new tracks on it, if you are looking at doing a different look for the Panzer IV with some metal tracks you can't go wrong with this version. I battled all 3 days with them on and didn't have any issues.

Well, over the past couple of battle weekends with the new track on the Pzr IV, this developed: Yup, sagging tracks, rear idler wheel couldn't hold the tension of these slightly heavier tracks and I threw track later on in that battle. Rather than spend the money on replacing the idler adjustment on the tank, I ended up removing a link, shortening the track and so far, it is working. I am maintaining proper track tension. So far the right side has not developed this problem, but I feel it is a matter of time until it does.

well, another update. I needed to fix the missing spring on the left rear fender and I wanted to add some extra detail so i built a spare road wheel holder and make the tow cable more usable. attach are the pics of the work done.
