RE: my new panzer III
Looking good Mike! I think I have to get a PZIII......but I gotta slow down first, lol. I'm still not done with my Tiger and I'm already wanting to start on my KV-1. Well, actually I am starting on my KV-1 only because it's probably the easiest.....or so I thought. I got a hold of so many KV-1 references which I kind of wish I hadn't......I was thinking this KV-1 was fairly accurate in regards to details and such......nope! lol But then again, the Soviets during that time merged different modifications to the tank that an accurately fielded KV wasn't common once it wen't in for repairs! lol
Back to your PZIII,....you planing on any mods?

RE: my new panzer III
I can't take credit for that, that was all you! I hear ya about the tall grass.
My KV-1 likes to eat tall grass unlike my Tiger. So I have to pull the tall grass out from the sprockets from time to time. But the big plus side is it stops for nothing. It's so long and the track protrude out far enough that it climbs up steps that my Tiger cannot. May also have something to do with being not only rear driven, but rear heavy. I love this tank. There is definately a big difference between my KV-1 and Tiger.
Check your email.

Thats a great looking panzer 3,If you had not said that all you had done was weather it I would have thought you had resprayed the whole tank. The weathering has transformed it completely.
I have the asiatam metal hull for my Stug 3,can't recommend it enough. The suspension works exceptionaly well, adds a nice bit of weight to it too.
I'd recommend buying the hull with the wheels as a complete set.Mine came with brass axles and bushes on the road wheels held in the arms with grub screws,I'm not sure it's the same when you buy the hull and wheels seperately as the seperate wheel set is designed to also fit the plastic hull and arms.
Don't quote me on that though.
Have fun.
Steve.

RE: my new panzer III
thanks guys...i did use diffrent washes and filters of diffrent shades of grey. the rest is tamiya weatherimaster sets, they work great.
tony you did point me in the rite direction as to what a tank should look like. i got some really cool books about the panzer III with some great walk arounds and color photos to help.
when i get the extra money i wont to do a DAK panzer and tiger.
thanks...mike

Looks great, but you really need to replace those rear vent stickers because they absolutely kill the realism. I really like how your weathering turned out.
Thankfully there is a cheap fix for the vents: (3rd item from the bottom) http://www.rccommand.com/asiatam_upgrades.php

RE: my new panzer III
My 2 cents here. I am getting the metal hulled Pz3 from Phil. I have had the stocj with upgrades and it is a great runner and one of my favorites. I can only imagine wht the metal ones does. Wahoo!!! It is being painted as I am dangerous with paint and has the DBU installed. I will share impressions.
I am interested in the metal Tiger next. Never had one but have read good things about it. I understand the metal version is lots better than the earlier versions.
It started with just one.

hey guys...yeah the stock vent stickers are junk. the metal ones will be orderd soon, and painted.
i would love to have a metal tiger I, just a great looking tank. for now the panzer is fine with the plastic hull and suspension.
think i will save the 200.00 for another panzer or maybe tiger.
thanks again...mike

RE: my new panzer III
Morning Maverick, I will post my Pz3 when it arrives from Phil. This will be my "Baby" in my collection so far. I really like what you have done with yours. So far I cannot do the weathering and paint. I do enjoy seeing what others have done and getting new ideas.
This is one of my favorite tanks.
Be well,
David

Maverick,
Great looking PZIII. for your the first time at weathering, you have jumped out of the starting blocks for sure. I'll be looking foreward to your pics when you get the Tiger.

I have had my H an L tiger I for about 4-5 years and still can't decide on what paint scheme to follow. After seeing Oztrucks DAK TigerI I have been kinda leaning in that direction. I need to hurry up and decide, because I also want to do a late Tiger I three tone camo. Oh the decisiones. LOL

RE: my new panzer III
Morning Mike, You know one of my concerns was taking this and that off to paint etc. I see by your pics and others that lots of tanks were weathered and painted with everything on them. Senile moment here but I can do that!!!
I have taken your sugestion about the Tamiya weathering paints and will try and find them localy or online. I spray cans of Krylon in my work area and that's it. lol I have a Pz4 I want to try things with. It is tan for the desert. I will try and post a pic of it.
I did all teh additions in the docs office while getting some surgery done. Phil got the tank to me just before and with medication and a cool doc and nurses, I was allowwed to bring it in the room with me instead of a....mp3 player etc.The nurse added some chains from her purse but they were a little large in scale. Look closely and see if you see Pershing parts and a trace of a glue gun...
Still I just love chains and think they used them but did not want us to know. They just look too cool not to be on the tanks.lol
Thanks for the ideas I have gotten from you and everyone here. I will try and do something with the Pz4 soon.
Phil will be giving me an update soon on my Pz3. I will let you and all know how it runs and looks.
Be well,
David

hey dash...panzer looks good brother. thats really cool she let you use the chains...looks good. whats nice about the tamiya weathermaster sets is if you dont like the way it comes out just wipe it off. get some color photos and go from there.
there are some really good painting tips here...http://web.mac.com/ethandunsford/DAK...ING_GUIDE.html

RE: my new panzer III
There's nothing wrong with the tracks. they look fine as they are. Too many people make the mistake of trying to make them appear rusty. Rust they did not do. the alloy used had very little iron in it so rust was not an issue unless the tanks stood unmoved for very long periods of time. And this they did not do either. the Germans frequently had to drive their tanks from battle too battle due too the lack of enough rolling stock to move the Panzer units efficiently. That severely hindered there abilities to get from place too place i a hurry. It also attributed too the many mechanical break downs they had. Many tanks were lost from breakdowns just in transit.
