I have a new in the box periscope lense for a Sherman if you need one. Weighs a ton. Still wrapped in the padded wrapping and in a cardboard box

It would be interesting if you were able to find any history on it. Maybe you should contact the Tank overhauling guys in the Military History Channel.

Even in the state its in, it would still be worth thousands of dollars. I cant imagine no-one owns it. Maybe they are no longer interested in it and would sell it.( cheap) I am sure you would find enough people here that would be interested in restoring it.

It appears the Danish Army left one of their 8 Shermans behind in the field.

I don't think it is a Grizzly, but it is quite possibly a Canadian Tank. With the CDP and the fact it is in Holland, probably mean it was originally in use with the Canadian forces. Grizzleys were cast hulls with slightly different sprockets.

up to 43 the grizzlys where cast hulls with a thicker casting and after 43 they produced a few long track steel hull grizzlys with thicker frontal armour but most where converted to the 17 pounder but a few where left with the 75mm gun i have a few pics of the later grizzlys but there are no exact numbers on how many where made all standard track steel hulls where shermans and all tanks used by the canadian army where equiped with CDP tracks except for the hvss tanks
if you look at the rear pics the tank has a rear gun barrel suport with would have made it a 17 pounder look like it was field salvaged refitted with another turret after battle damage

Certainly looks like a M4A3 75mm wet late war based on the engine deck and rear hull. It also appears to have received a post war weapons upgrade to the M1 76mm gun. I have seen some pictures of sucessful upgrades using the High bustel 75mm turret.
Interesting Shermy... :-)

I have a book on Canadian Shermans, and I can assure you that not all Canadian Shermans had the CDP tracks. There are mulitple pictures of Sherman tanks in the Canadian army that are running the rubber block tracks. All Grizzly tanks may have had CDP tracks, but most Shermans in use in the second world war used by the Canadians used the standard tracks.

Nothing like a lost tank to get the forum going. So who owns it ???? If its the government, there 's a chance to get it cheap for restoration. A good clean and a paint would stop furthur corrosion.

I woul imaging that it is government property, but I will try to dig in to the public websites of the army to see if there is something here that explains why it is here and who owns it
