rc4wd 20$ each, the website says it,s 2:1 not 3:1,fair warning you'll have to make two 5mm spacers to go inbetween the gru's & motors.they seem seem to be very robust and are fairly quiet.this mod is not for a beginner.

oh,and venom makes some great 9 tooth pinions also cheap, but you'll have to mod the trans to step down a tooth.no not planetary, there's a step down pinion on the inside made of some very durable looking steel.

thought i would update this old thread, the gear reduction units are still working, but i only drive the tank about an hour a week.just recently i added a set of impact tracks ,so we'll see how long they last.i thought these were reduced 2:1 but after watching some tanks with a 3:1 gru i believe they are closer to a 4:1 gru.they slowed my kt way,way down,to me it looks slower than than a 3:1 gru.i may change the 10 tooth pinions to 12 tooth and see if that makes it look more scale, well it does'nt really matter becuase i have only 40$ tied up in the gear reduction.if they fail then i'll start looking for a set of 3:1 tu's.

The stock Tamiya gear boxes already have a reduction built into them. It is slight but there. they actually drop, then rise then drop again. This was pointed out to me buy someone who is an expert in the RC Hobby so I am very inclined to believe him. That is why in most cases simply changing motors or pinions may be enough for a Tamiya tank. Depending on what model you have.
