My Pershing is still in the same state as it was around a year ago. It's not responding whenever I press on the startup command.
I got myself a new board (upgraded from rx-13 to rx-14) and It still doesn't work.
So now I have these questions, I hope I get some really useful tips because I can't really buy anything on my own (I'm 17 and I don't have a job or a bank account), plus being in the Philippine archipelago is kind of a downside because we need to have some special contact with someone to sell us tank parts or have the parts shipped from overseas (my dad can't really spend much because there was a problem with his documents (there were missing files because of the infamous flood that hit us last time) for his green card so my dad has to pay a lawyer to help him get it back, since he still hasn't gotten his green card yet, he still can't apply for a solid job in Cali).
the light flashes but it does not respond,
do receiver boards get fried too?
I checked the soldering, all seems fine
should I re-solder it all? (I might bust something)
I got a fully charged battery in the tank and new batteries in the controller
could this also be caused by the lack of power getting to some part of the boards on both the tank and controller?
I checked all the other stuff, The motors work fine, the speaker is untouched, power gets to the board(the lights flash), and I preserved the turret as it was
Am I cursed? to have every single RC toy I touch break down? (maybe I should stop tinkering with them.. LOL)
I'm open to all ideas, thanks for the help - dietrich

I agree with the crystal check suggestion......look for the simpliest things first. It is possible that the board is bad again....but it does seem you are getting some power and connection. My first tank was a heng long pershing and I had a similar problem....turned out to be the crystals were in wrong....swaped. Can you post some pics of the board and inside of the tank? Maybe one of the experts here will notice something you don't

Hi
have a good look at the receiver board
I had the same problem on my Pershing. when I had a good look at the receiver board there were some wire burs bridging on the soldered side.
I just cut them and the Pershing worked fine

My best guess would be the crystals. was the tank dead on arrival? if it was dropped in shipping or you dropped it the shock from a fall can wreck the crystals

As folks stated already, could be the crystal. I had issues last week with my KV-1, I thought it was the crystal too, but turns out the transmitter itself went bad. Only reason I found out before requesting for help in a thread was because both my PIII and KV-1 are on the same frequency and I didn't realize I still had the KV-1 on when I started up the PIII. You can imagine how elated I was not having to troubleshoot the problem. The crystal from the KV-1 and transmitter were verified to still be working in my PIII transmitter as well.

I'M 99 percent sure you just have a bad set of "crystals" and in that case your lights on the tank will just flash as the transmitter and board can not talk to each other. It is not very common for the transmitter to be bad unless mabe it got droped.
Don't know how easy it is to get parts there in the P.I. or what they will cost you. Here in the U.S.A. they sell for about 7-or-8 dollars a set plus shipping. (this is just so you have an idea what they sell for -)
If you can not find any to replace them (not just any crystals will work in your tank ) I think I have a spare set and this could be your "lucky day" as we Have a family member who is flying to Manila on June-10 and she has a Place in Santa Ana there in the Metro-Manila area and if you are stuck getting a set just PM me and let me know-......I will look for a set and send them with her,"Free to you",but you would have to go get them at her place.

To Starskey and bananapirate, I'll be looking through the boards later to see if anything is bridging and also my tank wasn't dead on arrival.
I placed the wrong type of battery on it and fried the board, then I got a new one but my tank still didn't work

I don't have any other tank than my pershing, and the transmitter worked fine before i fried my old board, so I can't really say that my transmitter has a problem.
thanks anyway for the advice Bigg Tony

Hey thanks BIGMIG, I'd gladly accept your offer.
But I have a question that I still need answered, is it possible that the receiver board could have gotten fried too?

If you over voltaged the board, it could be bad. Anything is possible. Is the transmitter light on? Is the antenna screwed in tight on the Tx? Is the antenna connection good in the tank, both the plug and the screw to the external antenna? Is the external tank antenna on?

Well if you have a nice brite light on the transmitter and the lights are flashing on the tank you know you are getting power two both of them.Like I said before if the transmitter and receiver are not comunicating with each other, thats as far as you are going to get. There could be other problems, but untill you rule out bad crystals you will be wasting your time and just guessing. When the lights just flash on the tank,it is not getting the signal to turn everything on.Until this happens it is just going to set there flashing-

I have had this same thing happen to me with several tanks.......New ones right out of the box.

P.S. General rule of thumb if you try to use a battery of lower voltage than required to operate your tank it most likely will not hurt anything, but using a battery of more voltage than it was made for can do dammage to it.

I checked all the parts you mentioned even before you mentioned it milsurp
Like I said, I already got rid of the bad board, so I don't have to worry about it anymore, I always turn on the transmitter before turning on the tank and I checked all the antenna connections too. Thanks for the advice

Hey BIGMIG, I learned about that battery thing the hard way, I placed aside the high voltage batt and I'm sticking with the stock batt till I get a better batt with the same voltage. I checked all the soldering and none of them were bridging, so I guess the problem is really in the communication bit.
Thanks for the help
Oh and I pm'd you bout those crystals, I still can't find anyone here who sells crystals or any other spare parts for the HL tank.
I know there are guys on here who are from the Phils. who have some parts to spare but I think I'd better take your offer
Thanks for the help
