Here's a link of the Cromwell (half-built) running and firing. Pretty cool!

I don't know. Pretty convincing but the model is too fast. Turret looks good! Armed with "how" he did it I need to look at my 1/35th kit and think.
Thanks for the video!

Wow... it's been a while since I posted in this thread. But with the announcement that Panda is doing a 1/16th Panzer 38(t), I figured I'd better get the Cromwell out of the way before I get another project started!
Just getting the rear end of the tank together. The air intake unit at the back is on, and I'm starting to get the rear deck in shape to start etching the panel lines and adding details...

Gonna have to keep track of this build. Have Christian's kit, but not gonna have the time to get to it for awhile. Very unique build, great looking so far!

Question for everyone...
I am going to covering up the rear of the turret with a camouflage net, that were really common to Cromwells in Normandy and Northeast Europe in 1944. Does anyone have a source for the them, or a really good technique?
Lemme know!

Not to detract from the amazing work in this thread, I really like it.. BUT! ... did this kit ever come out? I'd LOVE a Cromwell, and I like his ^^ recent work (Tiger, Panther), I think its brilliant.

RE: 1/16 Scale rc Cromwell Tank build thread
Found a couple of great reference shots for the kind of camoflage netting that's going on the Cromwell's turret. It's called Hessian Camoflage... of course whenever I hear the word 'Hessian' I think of Yosemite Sam from the Revolutionary War episode of Bugs Bunny.
And a nice profile showing lots of stowage and gear. Also, this is a pretty good example of how Cromwells were seen in the field during operations - the fenders either came off, or the crews removed them. Note what appears to be a Bren gun on the top of the turret.
Been picking away at some more detailing. I've got the rear deck all finished. Only thing there is to add the grill over the rear opening...
And got started on the front with the periscopes..
Thanks again for looking. Hopefully, more progress to report by the end of the weekend.

Cool! I think it's great that you built two at once! I might do that on my next project.
For a whole bunch of reasons - work, kids, a house reno - I had to put the Cromwell away for a year or so. I like to just pick away 20 minutes or so at a time. Today, I'm going to try and get the stowage boxes on the sides done... that's really the last serious piece of construction left to do.
Then I just have to change the front idlers wheels and detail the front. Maybe a week or two. And then into paint... and then onto the next project!

RE: 1/16 Scale rc Cromwell Tank build thread
Hope I'm not posting too many pictures..
The last photos were really dark, so I brought the Cromwell upstairs into the light and took some nicer shots.
Got the storage boxes on, and now it is really feeling like a Cromwell tank. The position of those boxes also makes the turret feel a little more to scale, I think. It's still a bit big, but I can live with it.
Does anyone know where I might find some 1/16 or 120mm British tank crew figures in open-hatch positions? I think they'd look great in this tank...

Hey! ...... thanks for the video link. I haven't watched them yet (there are two 1 hour episodes) but the BBC made them so they are gonna be good. Other tank videos are listed on the sidebar too.

Nice model, Cromwell is on my to do list (along with all the others lol). I'd seen that turret diorama model and did wonder if it could be used. Here it is and a great job you doing. The BBC Tankie series was excellent, though the chaps in it didn't rate the Cromwell when they first saw it ! Personally I think it's a purposeful looking tank but then again I didn't have to go to war in one [X(]

RE: 1/16 Scale rc Cromwell Tank build thread
By the way, Hessian or Burlap was used in rolls up until the 90s as a shape breaking layer covering the whole vehicle. Over this went the cam net. So a Hessian roll on the back would be perfect. Way back in the 80's in my Armoured days, we used to paint Bricks, doors and windows (some with flowers in them !).
and we used to pretend to be German houses, thus foxing Soviet recce pilots into thinking that suddenly Germany was covered in wobbly buildings !

Really getting close now... I've got the stowage boxes made, and on... they're a really distinctive feature of the Cromwell, and certainly add to it's shape...
