Default would this fan work?please

Guys I had few fans found in my junk box...

I am thinking to use for my future hl tank, if not Pc fan/?

On the back of the fan had DC 40V 0.24A DC brushless, it had 3 wires, red black and yellow.

Can someone please help me to tell me

1)if it would work for 7.2V or even on computeras an cooling fan.

2) which colour wire is plus and negative, I need to change the new plug.

Thanks very much guys......

40V?

I believe desktop computers are 12V, laptops may be 5V, but nothing approaching 40V. Looks like those might be used for amplifiers? At least what I find online.

A voltage that high being supplied with the low voltages we use would not be good for the electronics in the tank either. It is not that it wont work but that the fan will all ways be under a severe draw situation which can cause it to heat up and become a bigger problem than what were trying to prevent. RCCommand has fans in stock that work great. You can go too RCTankwars also. Pretty much any small fan up to 12 volts will work fine.

I see there are 7.2V specific fans out there, so if you are interested, might be an option.

http://www.integy.com/st_prod.html?p...163&p_catid=44 Pretty big (far bigger than needed IMO) however the price is actually real reasonable (excluding shipping)...if you are in the US.

As alluded to, computer fans will work.

60x60 mm is a little large. Thats almost 2 3/8 ths of an inch. It will work but might be tight in one of the smaller tanks. 40x40 is about the perfect size.

Yes, aside from the 40V issue, a brushless motor requires connection of all three wires and needs a special control for electronic commutation. - Gerry

Are there any 40MM fans designed for 7.2V?

If I had my druthers I'd get a fan that was designed for 7.2V, since anything under or over the rated voltage reduces fan efficiency, assuming they are designed properly.

That's a near-worthless factor within the RC tank world (I understand my certain OCD tendencies lol), but IF one were available as reasonably as all the other fans out there, that's what I'd opt for.

I dont know of any as 7.2 volts seems to be an RC vehicle voltage. I don't know of any thing else that uses 7.2 volts. The efficiency thing isn't gonna matter that much here. Just make sure it can handle at least 7.2 volts. Mine are all 12 volt fans, they just run slightly slower thats all.

I wouldn't be surprised if those fans are simply rebadged 5 or 12V ones. Then again, for the price, hopefully not.

Pratically no, effficiency won't matter, the problem is KNOWING it's not perfect, for those of us who can't stand knowing something isn't just as we think it should be.

But really, for the price, I would be very surprised if they re-engineered the fans based on the difference of a couple of volts.

Just get the darn fans and start having some fun running the tank instead of worrying how efficient the dam fan is LOL

thank Guys, so PanG you reckon with DC 40V the lowest voltage may be is 12V????or higher??

I installed this 5v 40mm laptop fan on my Rx18 and haven't had a single problem.  It moves air very well considering its small form factor, and just barely fits in the hull of my little Panzer 3.  You can buy individual fans like this at RCTankWars.com or RCCommand.com, or even an entire Rx18 board with the fan already installed pretty much ready to plug-and-play.

Already got my fan. Fun for me is the ideas, design, and buildup, and all the parts that go into place to make it the way I want it. Which makes me appreciate the real deal that much more than the 16" piece of plastic I have.

The 40 volts is probably the max voltage that fan is designed for. most likely will run too slow in our situation and can actually cause problems being so severely under powered.

NO. It will not if it's brushless, you will need a brushless controller. Brushless motors are not interchangeable with standard brushed motors. That's why there are three wires, a common and two switched legs using alternating DC.

Sorry dude, like some other good advice here any fan in the 40mm range-ish should work that's rated for 5 to 12 volts on the 7.2 batts. Any lower or higher will burn out the fan or not have a fast enough rpm to do any good. If you look in your junkbox (or elsewhere) and it doesn't say brushless and only has two wires it is a brushed motor. Also make sure it says DC, if rated for AC it won't work either. Those little fans in AC are rare though. Good luck and happy hunting.
