RE: TO ALL INTERESTED in the Subject...

I just want to share an idea, which is not immediately available, but might be in the future:

- what if the hosting club might be able to supply all the tanks destined to the championship, all of the same brand and all equipped with a battle unit, already set up in teams with same 'strenght' (e.g. 1 heavy, 2 mediums, 1 or 2 light tanks per team)?

The above idea would get rid of any requiremend of 'testing' the partecipating tanks for speed, traverse, compatibility, IR receivers, etc., as well as making travelling easier, since all pilots might consider travelling by plane without bringing their own tanks.

Bringing one's tank would be allowed, but not using it during the official championship. Side battles with own tanks would be foreseen though, for fun.
Also special prizes for best models might be foreseen for own's models.

I know that we are talking about the hosting club setting up at least 4 teams at once, meaning from 16 to 20 tanks.

Just want to hear you about such a scenery, though.

Hi Guys,

The North East Armored Division is very interested in attending as a US team. We are 100% commited to assisting you in any way possible to make this a reality. We are now up to 83 NEAD members and growing each month. I hope your event will be in the cooler months and not during peak travel times so that it will be affordable for all interested. Are any of the European tank museums interested in sponsoring this meet. As mentioned here on RCU in early May, NEAD & HEAT are working with the AAF Tank Mus. in sponsoring an International RC tank convention at Danville in the Spring of 2012. If the European event is held in the fall this my serve as a spring board to promote it further with the RC tankers here in the US & Canada. Wouldn'd it be fantastic if the 45 or so tankers that were at Danville for the Extravaganza made the trip to Europe. What a dream.... Perhaps a tour group rate my be obtainable for the US contingent. I know each would be aching for a trip to some of the notable tank and WW II museums in the EU. I still have some Euros and a few quid burning a hole in my pocket from my D-Day trip.

Please do not hesitate to contact me for assistance. I will be sure to discuss this with the regulars at Danville this weekend. I know that James is already up to speed.

Having taken DBCRC2 and El-Mod tanks and got them thru the inspection process at Danville, I can say that they work according to the rules there. (The only tank I had to adjust was my KV-2A, which was running Tamiya electronics!)

My US club (Detroit Tank Command) tested all non Tamiya Apples to the Tamiya spec (takes hits at 80ft) - some of my apples wouldn't pass this, but the Danville test is closer to 40ft - If we accept the Danville test, I don't see any problems ;)

I can understand the idea that we borrow 'normalised' tanks for the battle, but to be honest I would drive my tank a lot harder than a loaner from someone else (which would give its owner an edge in a battle) - and I want to run my toys in anycase ;) otherwise why make the trip?

I'm sorry, but your post was lost in translation to me :(

Are you saying that you do not want to allow El-mod electronics, or do you mean that individuals can make screens that fail tests? I h ave a design for El-Mod apple screening that meets Tamiya TBU performance at 80ft - just needs a little development...

Andrea, Can you help translate here?

Ciao Riccardo!

I would quote you, but the HTML tags in your post are, well wow....

But if I understand you correctly:

1: Bring your own tank (if it fits the rules - right?) - no problem with that here :D

2. We need to match Tamiya Equipment specs - if we use the Danville test procedure I think most of us are OK.

Is that correct? I'm happy to guide the UK club to comply with the Danville rules currently in force, as they really aren't that tough.

Best Regards :)

+1 to Ex_Pat_tanker...

Guys, the borrow can be only in case something is wrong with The Participant model...
Everyone who participates must use his/her own tank equaled to standard Tamiya/RCTW/Elmod.

We are all different but we have one standard. We meet also to share how we play, how we drive our models and showOUR models to each other, not only to compete.

RE: TO ALL INTERESTED in the Subject...

I have a couple of question for those who have enforced the Danville rules on all kinds of tanks:

- is a stock Tamiya Tiger, with its turbo speed and commander hatch partially shielding the TBU apple compliant?

- is a stock Tamiya Sherman, with its commander hatch glued in fixed position partially shielding the TBU apple compliant?

And one small punctualization about the leaned tanks: it won't be really somebody else's tank but a set of tanks which have been selected, equipped and grouped in teams with the aim of having pre-built balanced teams to eliminate any difference in team balance and let the driver's ability do ALL the difference.
Borrowing a single tank to somebody who hasn't a compliant one is a slightly different concept.

Hello Borealis,

NEAD & HEAT ran the recent Extravaganza jointly. Both James and I did the inspections although he is much quicker at it than I am. Perhaps I can shed some light on what we are looking for during these inspections.

The primary items checked are:

*Working gun flash (LED or strobe).
*Audible sound system.
*Emitter depth and tube diamitter. If you use the stock Tamiya emitter housing from your tank kit or from the TBU package , you will be fine. Use it a s a guide.
*You must be able to take IR hits from each of your fours sides (zero degrees, 90, 180 & 270 degrees). Common sense rules apply when hatches, figures, machine guns or stowage block the apple fins.
*Your tank must die and 3,5 or 9 hits according to your class.
*We did not check speed at this event since there were over 100 tanks present. Normally we do check and enforce scale speed resrictions.
*The TBU leds should be visible to show when a hit is scored.

I hope this helps.

RE: TO ALL INTERESTED in the Subject...

Fine. My question was due to the feeling that a stock Tamiya tank built to instructions is auto-compliant, and everything else must comply to it, which (in my opinion) is not.

The points in my post above were just some of the 'stock' advantages a stock Tamiya tank has over other competitors, including those equipped with compatible IR systems, and the (way) out-of-scale speed of Tamiya tanks is clear.

During our last meeting we had a tank race, just for fun, and the winner was.. a stock Tamiya King Tiger!
Guess if its speed was in scale...

RE: TO ALL INTERESTED in the Subject...

Hey Jersey...... I did do speed checks on tanks that had never been inspected before or tanks with changes to the drive train since the last battleday.

In general stock tanks will pass inspection, except blocking of the TBU is not allowed. On the tiger you can shave the back of the hatch a little to allow it to drop below the fins or you can leave the glue off the part that holds one end of the hatch so it can be removed for battle. This goes to basic fairness and applies to all tanks not just the tiger.

I have seen stock tigers run at 30 smph out of the box. There are two problems with this 1 a new tanker will have problems controlling the tank in close quarters and two with the standard tamiya motors you will be a pill box after the 5th hit. Upgrading to 480s with or without gear downs will both slow the tank make it more controllable and give you movement when down to 1 hit left.

...On the tiger you can shave the back of the hatch a little to allow it to drop below the fins or you can leave the glue off the part that holds one end of the hatch so it can be removed for battle. This goes to basic fairness and applies to all tanks not just the tiger.

I completely agree with you, but this should be read and understood by some Tamiya fanboys I know in Italy (NOT belonging to my rc tank club...) who didn't make a change on their tanks, not even to the commander hatch on the Tiger (...not saying to gearboxes or motors..) and dont' know what fairiness is... just because "this is built according to Tamiya instructions".

Good morning everyone.
Fans are a Tamiya Tiger I, and I have mounted on the box.
If you will be banned for the cash ok.
I will use one of the other five tanks Tamiya and now I own the 2012 increase.
However as others have already said I want to see a mail that has led to visible when hit like Tamiya.
Electronics elmod who receives the blow as a Tamiya 25metri.
However, I and my group will participate Bancomat if all the rules.
I trust a lot Robert.
Best regards
Capitan America

My dear fellow tankers, please do NOT ask me to translate and explain the above post, just because I'm from Italy too: it's way beyond my understanding :)

I tried to reverse translate using Google, but with no result :D

Sorry again

GOODMORNING,

I have 5 Tamiya rc tanks including a Tiger I. If you will decide to do not use this model because the hatch covers slightly the battle system receiver I will use another model.</p>

About the strange speed of tamiya engines I can prepare a model with the right engines for this Championship.</p>

I believe that you will make accurate checks on various models including Tamiya compatible.</p>

I found in various battles tanks with Elmod electronics that not rweceive any damage over 14/15 m. but he can hit you at 25-30 m..</p>

IMHO different electronics are not so safe: led not visible, sound so low, hit not received....

I conclude that trust in Robert (Armor Eto) alias "Servoblast" for a right "rules book".

Hallo Capitan America

Ciao Riccardo :D

the hatch covers slightly the battle system receiver
The Detroit club tested this because we were sceptical also, but we could not find a problem at least directly pointing at the IR receiver tower at 80, 60 and 40 feet distance. This should also pass Danville tests as long as the hatch folds down to its maximum position (Right, James/Bob?)

About the strange speed of tamiya engines I can prepare a model with the right engines for this Championship.
This is pretty inexpensive to do, at least in the US, and the extra torque from the gear reduction will help you after you start taking hits.

I believe that you will make accurate checks on various models including Tamiya compatible.
In my experience, if you are running Mato or Asiatam gearboxes you are ok in the speed trials. The stock plastic gears in the Mato Sherman are slightly too slow, and if you use the monkey metal HL gears you are probably ok if you are using the HL electronics.
I think speed compliance will be easy for the guys who haven't played around with their drive trains, or who have el-mod (I'll bring my El-Mod dongle and programming software) or the guys running Tamiya with the Spektrum DX6i or similar radio (you can adjust the rates to control the top speed).
For the guys who have spent $$$ on their motors and gears already, they have no excuse for not meeting specification... ;)

I found in various battles tanks with Elmod electronics that not receive any damage over 14/15 m. but he can hit you at 25-30 m..
This is a function of the design of the shielding of the IR receivers, not the system. I have devised a cover that 'just about' matches the Tamiya apple (one side takes hits out to 75 feet, the rest at 90 feet per the specification - the design needs some work still), and I would like to be able to get somebody to 3D print them for us as a standardised item. This cover passed the test at Danville however, and I had no problems getting killed using it... I would suspect that the tanks you tested against either had too little baffling - so that sunlight was blinding the sensor - or too much, so that they were not able to detect the incoming light.

IMHO different electronics are not so safe: led not visible, sound so low, hit not received....
I agree that the sound level is an issue on non-Tamiya tanks in general. However, so long as they have visible 'hit' lights and a muzzle light (flash or LED) this is not an issue except for the driver if he lacks a recoil mechanism ("dude, did my tank just fire or not?"). Also having several tanks operating at once, you find it difficult to determine where the sound is coming from anyway, so I'm not convinced that sound is all that important - IF the players have the correct lighting.

I conclude that trust in Robert (Armor Eto) alias ''Servoblast'' for a right ''rules book''.
I think you know where I am coming from with all of this, Bob? [8D]

Thanks,
Mart

muzzle lights. hmmmm.

I am not a diehard battler but I didn't realize anyone pays attention to those, really? Hit lights yes.

And running a PzKw III with a scale 5cm main gun and DBC is it really practical to have a muzzle light in there??
That's probably an extreme example.

I can't say I disagree with much of anything else but muzzle lights seems a nit; after you're hit what's the difference?
The way I have seen most operators run their models they're more like bugs or rats darting in and out of concealment
so you'd probably miss the flash anyway.
