not too much to say...
.....shortened, narrowed HL chassis..(the Pzr3 wheel will be disguised later;)) http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=1998543 plasticard upper hull... http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=1998544 Started on the turret tonight..... BTW...here's a Hellcat I did a while ago..... http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=1998545 |
Hi Fynsdad
Nice. Is that an M26 hull you've used as the basis - wheel spacing suggests that, rather than the M41? Mal |

I like the outdoor setting and the photos!
Thanks for the update. Any shots of the interior would be appreciated |
Nice build. Looked awesome!
|
Your building skills and photography skills are very impressive ....... top notch !
Rex |
Lovely work and lovely choice of subject matter! Thanks for showing us :)
Jan |
No, I'm very interested and hope you post more pics. I would like to know how you formed the turret so nicely though.
Thanks Again. Jim |
There's not too many more pics I'm afraid. This was a strange build, I didn't really enjoy it as I took a lot of stick from a couple of guys on another forum because, for reliability, I used a Pzr3 sprocket, and how I should have scratchbuilt one, even though I don't think these "experts" have done much more than sprayed a couple of Heng longs ;) so it was just a case of get it finished and sell it on, (to someone who's very happy with it).
...as to the turret it's just plasticard with a lot of filler/sanding to the cast "nose"....... |
Well I think it looks great. Would also like to know the cuts you made to the M-26 Chassis??

That I can show... basically took the last roadwheel off, and a strip down the middle to get her narrower and shorter. Gearboxes on a plate which is then fixed into position...

You do some amazing work. I have enjoyed your builds wherever I see them.
Herman |
its a great work nicely done , three years ago i saw a real chaffee next to a sherman ... it looks as if yours is a little to big ... but still its beautiful scratch work
what i remembered of the chaffee he was even tiny against a sherman (105mm) honestly i was disappointed then of it ... can it be a bit to width or is that optical disillusion ? this year he will be back on Wings and wheels in 23-24 august i bet ... but still my favourite although a hellcat is the max ... well done mate |

on the pics not realy see it like should http://nap0.wordpress.com/2013/05/04...2013-in-ename/ i was there too |
Cool pictures. What tracks are on the Sherman?
|
those tracks were very commen in the ardennes with M10's etc don't know their name
|
Just to clarify...the Sherman is on the left of the picture....I measured it up and the Chaffee was at most 7mm too long..this was unavoidable with the chassis I used. I can live with that

Yes Sir!
I'm No Expert... not even Close... But I think you did a Jam Up Job there. I'll keep my eyes open for your Builds I'm the Future... I have A Lot To Learn... :) -gus |
I think that if you used the M26 front sprockets it will look much better. Great job still but the PzIII sprockets look just a little too big for it.
|
.....but if I used M26 sprockets, I'd have to have used M26 tracks, making it far too wide like the HL Bulldog
..this is why I did not enjoy this build........ |
I'd love an Allied tank the size of the Chaffee to battle the Pzr III or IV. I could live with the incorrect sprockets. You could have spent a lot of time making perfect sprockets…. that were one-offs. What would happe if they got damaged? Something to be said for readily available spare parts.
Again, thanks for taking the time to share the build. |

Thats exactly what happened to my Stuart on it's last battleday. She lost a pin on the bogie but as it was a standard HL Sherman part, 5 mins repair, she's good to go......;)
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2009393 |
Would it be possible to narrow the M26 sprockets? I haven't taken a look at them so I don't know.
|
It may be possible, but then you've also got to rework the teeth to work with panzer 3 track...then again you've got the whole spares/repair issue. As it was I was building her as a reliable battle version of a tank that's not produced, using stock running gear, she was never going to be 100% accurate, but like I have already said the constant negative comments I had regarding how I built her really spoiled the "build" so much so I just sold her on.

I agree with your thoughts about this ..... in any case, you can't see the design of the sprocket when the tank is running ....... so how it looks doesn't matter, at least to me in this case. |
As far as I'm concerned you did an excellent job and the Chaffee looks very sharp.
Also looking at your Stewart I know that's a tank I'd love to drive into our next battle, does it have a build thread? |
posted a couple of pics of the Stuart on here, but here's a more detailed thread.....

...as to the turret it's just plasticard with a lot of filler/sanding to the cast "nose"....... Don't let anyone on a forum discourage your efforts. Your builds are always good, and the speed in which you get things done is amazing. Far better to do and learn, with results to show, then to get bogged down in details that result in nothing. I appreciate the meticulous detail for those that put the time in to do it, but equally I enjoy the stand off efforts as well. I myself lean more to the stand off, as these are built to run, The fact you are battling with a Stuart and a Chaffee says it all to me,. A key thing with an RC tank is the availability of spare parts. Your approach makes the efforts very saleable. People know they can easily get the spare parts if they need them. A custom built, one off approach would never create that confidence. Well done I say. Your logic is rock solid. |
