I have updated/corrected my link. The one previously posted somehow came out bogus. What you have posted is similiar, but more simplistic than my info. Again, Ackermann is needed. The HF has too much. Moving the attachment point of the steering rods closer to the hub (increased rod length neecded) will help the HF. Just drill a hole 4 - 5mm closer to the hub. Attach rods and cut off the excess (cutting not needed, just for appearance). I'm not going to get into a big discussion over something I've done and seen positive results with. Although I occasionally run my HF, it's taken a back seat to my D8T. Someone could modify the HF to the max and it still wouldn't be all that close to the performance of the newest truggies. Fact of life. HF is OK for beginner club racing or bashing. That's about it. My D8T would destroy a HF in a head to head race. BTW, D8T kits can be found on EBay for $295 with free shipping. I wouldn't advise anyone interested in racing to go with the HF.

Are you using the post reply button or the quick reply? Are they in one of the supported formats?

Nice job on the steering plate. But there are simpler solutions.

As you can see, steering hub has been shortened. Which reduces the ackermann a bit more than your example.

Nitro, I'm in the process of swapping out my stearing up gear w/the alloy pieces like you did there. Can you tell me, how the HELL you ever got that one, long, pressed-in pin out? I don't see any way to get it out. =Thanks

Do you mean the pin running through the hub? This is not pressed in. Use a hex wrench into the end of the hub to loosen the set screw. It should just about fall out.

This one... I guess it's a "captured pin"?? http://www.rcuniverse.com/magazine/r...nderhood16.jpg

Oh. Take out the small screw which keeps the hinge pin from coming out in use. Just push from the opposite side of where you took the screw out. Use anything with a suitable size to push. All I usually need is a straight pin or etc. It should slide out easily. Unless it's been bent from a hit. If it's bent, a bit of pushing is required.

BTW, for insurance it's a good idea to put a small washer on the capture screws. This way the pins are better retained. Some have reported that the pins slide out because the screws don't cover the pins enough.

Looking at the steering spindle, what could be shortened? You're right, the attachment point for the tie rod. Drill a hole closer to the hub and attach the tie rod. About 8mm, no more. Not a super critical distance. I cut off the unused portion and used a dremel tool to round it off and tidy it up. It could be left on. I can't make it any clearer.

it does seem as though we have similar taste in tables- "If its wood you know its good"

Your outside tire is turning even more than the inside- You notice that makes coasting through turns at any decent speed difficult because of the tire scrub?

Just curious

Maybe it was the camera lens. The inside wheel does turn slightly more, just not too much. I can't remember the last time I coasted through a turn. My diffs are set so that I can swing the rear around.

no, by 'lift' I mean when the weight shifts to the rear under acceleration, meaning the front end goes light and the wheels are more likely to slip, spin, and balloon. I wanted to prevent this as much as possible so used 15,000. But I think its too thick, causing understeer out of corners when I accelerate.

I'll try a thinner oil and report back
Can I assume the 15,000 you are speaking of is in the center diff? If so, it should be in the ballpark as far as weight. Heavy center diff weight will not cause understeer. You may be over reacting to a normal situation. I wouldn't go over 20k or under 10k in the center.

BTW, your understeer is a known HF issue. It will never turn like a Losi/etc., but proper setup can help.

Why go through the trouble? HF tank $8.99 on EBay. Not too bad. Although the HB tank is a clunk design, which is nice.

Rough measurements

HF
L 94mm
W 51mm
H 40mm

D8T
L 90mm
W 42mm
H 52mm

I've just got a Spektrum DX3s and fitted the receiver in my HF.

The only problem is I can't seem to mount the RPM sensor anywhere near the flywheel. Have any of you HF owners got a Spektrum with Telemetry and have you managed to fit the RPM sensor?

Cheers
