RE: Cen Matrix Tr Arena
Ok here are some pictures of my car and some of the mods I have made.
Spektrum RRP/MPH sensor.
Receiver battery charging jack, throttle return spring, Spektrum RPM sensor and a Motor
Saver air filter with the long neck to get it out of the way of the air flow to the cooling head.
Brand new, still need to cut cooling/access holes.

RE: Cen Matrix Tr Arena
Last one for today, remember the CEN owb gave out on my pull start. Well I had an extra Revo pull start that matched up (bolt pattern and spindle size) but it was a little too tall so I had to machine a spacer to fit between the pull start and backing plate. Took some scrap aluminum bar stock, machined it to about 3/8 of an inch, bored a hole for the owb, drilled the 4 mounting holes and finally I machined the outside edges to match the profile of the pull start and clear the header. It took about 15 mins to do the machining, but another 20 mins to get the thickness just right, so there would be no play between the owb and starter spindle bushing.

Thanks for posting the pictures of the starter box. I'll definitely be getting one next week. What you did with the pull start is very creative, I like to see custom stuff done. Finally got my Arena today and I must say I am very impressed with the components used to build the Arena. The RTR is the best way to go and for the price you can't go wrong. It just looks trick, I can't stop looking at it. The air filter what can I say about it?....it's huge and wont allow any air to cool the engine where it's located, so I will order an aftermarket filter for it.
I have a question though, If I were to put the composite center braces in a orange or red dye would it take the color well or would stay black?

Back to 17mm Hubs/Hexes...
I used the Matrix Buggy rear axles for the rear of the truck. $7 each For these axles you will also need 5x5 grub screws. The truggy axles are much heavier / beefier than the buggy axles.
Buggy axle is on the left
Thunder Tiger 17mm Hubs/Hexes and 3 shims. Snugs it up nicely. Actually, any 17mm hub for a 8mm axle and 3mm pin will work (Mugen, TTR, HPI, Hot Bodies, CEN)
To do the whole job and use minimal shimming, you should also use Matrix Buggy front Axles for the front of the truck. However.... they only come as an entire CVD setup and are $27 each. So I just used a couple extra shims up front to get rid of the backlash.
Anyway... this is the way I would go if I was going to switch over to 17mm hexes on the Arena. You can just use 17mm hubs and a stack of shims but I dont like that.

Looks REALLY nice, can't wait to get mine.
Mystikal-No, you can't dye black plastics, you have to dye them a darker color than they already are.

RE: Cen Matrix Tr Arena
Had some fairly good weather today so I broke in the Arena. Coming from a guy who had Revo's before all I can say is WOW.
Don't take me wrong I still like my Revo's but when it comes to racing the Arena takes the trophy.
I used Byrons 30% and the heat cycle method. Pull start is a pain....someone give me a starter box!
Overall I am happy with my Arena.....now time to drop all those upgrades in.

OMFG what a dozer...... kid dont your parent monitor your internet ?
the mayhem ST is not in the same caliber as the pro level truggies, it has goofy gearing and needs a pile of hopups to even think about competing, you are comparing a fun sport level Truggy to a true race bred Truggy, apples to Oranges

RE: Cen Matrix Tr Arena
in a nut shell....
all the cars and trucks are good....
even the Mayhem....just like the good o'l Ford Chevy thing...depends on what one may or may not want to invest or decide upon racing or having fun??
speed .....gear it to the moon have fun, poping wheelies etc, etc, etc, etc...
but enough of that...
regardless of kits one decides to buy...make sure "Your Hobby Shop"
will have parts for the kit you decide to buy....
would be "POINTLESS" to buy any kit if you can not get parts???
be like buying a totaly "Exotic" super ultra Sophisticated car but if that
.25 cent part breaks?? and you go to the hobby shop to get the part for your next round?
and they dont have it??? guess what your heading home early???????
"Or Just Watching the A Mains".......
so be it a Kyosho,Mugen,Sportwerks,TTR,CEN anything....be sure you can get parts "Localy"
as well as online in a reasonable time frame......
pretty much stock up on items that could be subjected to the most stress,
(ie. arms,knuckels,hindge pins,drive lines etc.)
so even if one decides to get a car that a shop wont carry or doesn't at the time of your Purchases, besure to order extra parts......
even as a CEN driver i would contest to be true get what you have best access to...
would much wrather see and have happy customers than upset ones having to look for parts..
as they say:
"A Chain Is Only As Strong As It's Weakest Link"
any driver no matter how good,In any car is can only go so fast if there car is broken???
they all break, they ALL need t have parts replaced.....they all need a Upgrade of sorts to "Accomidate" the driving styles of the driver to help "He or She" do there best to help them win or becomne compeditive at there tracks........
hope this can help...
quick story...was 9 seconds on the field at one of our local tracks here in Southern California during Qualifing....
yea thought i had it made!!! then right accross the line......
then the center diff just "Exploded" in my CEN TR.....even as a "Factory Driver"
i did not have "Those" parts...i did not think in a million years that would let loose?
but there "Mechanical in nature? things go wrong....
so no matter how fast i "Was" key word "WAS" i still lost....
because the local shop "Did Not Carry those Parts".........
so i got to "Watch the A Main".......
