Check out this wheel dyeing result
I have just attempted dyeing some wheels for the first time. Using black clothing dye and boiling water this is the result!
Although I'm happy with the result as I plan on doing a Black and Orange body soon, has anybody experienced this before?

Sorry but that does not make any sense.............Black dye and boiling water result in orange color wheels[sm=drowning.gif][sm=spinnyeyes.gif]
The only rims I know that can dye is white..........but then again if your rims were yellow and you use red (not black) then maybe or not

Believe me, the dye was black, the wheels were originally white. The dye I used was a machine dye powder, meaning it is designed to be used in a washing machine to achieve dyeing of clothing. I cant explain it but it did happen. I would have no reason to make this up!

I doubt it was black. The powder may have looked black (the last time I used red it was so dark it ap;peared black) and the company may have messed up and put the wrong color on a black carton but that was not black dye imo.

LMAO dude, this whole thread is hilarious really. I think the rims look sweet but if you were wanting black then I bet they dont cut the mustard. I especially like the response where you said "why would I lie about this?" - classic really. Anyway, I think they loook great but.....I have an ST-1 with an orange body so go figure...

pigment is pigment..black pigment will not dye wheels orange..this isnt rocket science....I dont care what you say dude you used orange dye.... if the dye was truly black, your rims would be black...... Dye doesnt by magic change pigment color, to get orange color you need orange dye...Your color is mandarin orange, i have used this color myself several times.... I have also used black dye several times....in the soaking solution both black and orange look the same, the only diference is when you pull the final product from the soak..the black dye dyes stuff black, and the orange dye dyes stuff orange... as i say this isnt rocket science..you by mistake used orange dye no ifs ands or buts about it..oange is orange, black is black

I think he used Black.... I have had some thing before that was black but you could almost see a red/orange tinge to it so i think it must have jsut been a weak solution of black.

White plastic and black dye does not equal madarin orange.... pigment is pigment..... black is all pigments, if it comes out orange it means the pigmentation is orange not black.... colors dont lie !

this is possible you guys. the Jang for ultimatetraxxas.com had a similar problem using RIT to dye suspension arms. he started with green dye but the arms turned purple. BTW the vehicle was his 4-tec to buggy conversion.

Guys, the explanation is simple... at wal-mart the boxes are not sealed at all so all someone has to do is switch the dyes to ruin someones day, but in this case it backfired. By the way I didnt know this from experiance, hahahaha
