RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread
Hey guys i was wondering how much success you guys have had racing this car I'm planning on picking up one of the hellfire ss when it comes out and can it hold its own against crt's and st-r's? i have yet to see one at my track so that kinda worries me lol

RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread
How tight are you guys keeping your servo saver? I've burn out my brand new hitec servo and my brother seems to think that it is because of the servo saver.

RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread
Hi all, I'm planning on buying the HPI Hellfire. I have never owned or operated a nitro powered rc before, but I have done plenty of research of how to maintain and care for the nitro motors.
My question is, does the Hellfire come with sufficient starting instructions? Does it explain things like how to set the needles properly, for both racing and wide open parking lot bashes? Does it list general maintenance practices for the engine, and perhaps give some tuning tips? I have been into electric rc's for years, and I have no problem taking apart and rebuilding the entire model I have. I am ready to jump into the nitro scene, and I really like the Hellfire. I am just looking for a nitro truck that will explain all the fine details of how to care for it. Thanks for your help[8D] -Matt |
RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread
which hitec?
If you notice turning to the left, the servo saver arm hits the mount block and does not allow the saver to work. This will cause one to burn up over time. I had to drill another hole in the akerman beside the original. This will give you enough cap for the servo saver to operate and give you the full turn radius. actually gives you more steering. When you do this though you need to get a taller servo horn becuse the steering linkage is too short to center the horn and when you turn to the right the screw on the servo horn will hit the case of the servo. You have to slant it forward a little due to the the servo saver now being turned further out and the steering linkage being to short to compensate for it. Im trying to find a little longer linkage to put on it so I can center the horn back up on the servo. You can set your end point with your radio for now though. RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread
Matt,
The Hellfire has honestly been the easiest to operate truck I have ever owned. I haven't had a bit of trouble tuning the engine. I dunno if I just got lucky, or if HPI just has good stuff, but so far the ONLY problem I've had with the truck is the overmatched steering servo. Unless they are now shipping them out with better ones, you'll definitely want to upgrade that to a metal geared servo. Then just swap the original steering servo with your throttle one and you're ready. If you are planning on bashing only, you may want to investigate some of the other higher ground clearance trucks. But if you'd also like to race I don't think you can go wrong with the HF. And as far as instructions, other than the 37 languages garbled onto the same page, they are more than sufficient. In fact, being a racing noob, I found the sections on how to alter your handling settings very helpful. |
RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread
Thanks for the reply wmff82. It was the Hitec 645mg, now I know this servo dosn't quite have the torque needed, but it was all I could afford at the time. I'll try what you said and see if that works.

RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread
rear shock tower
does anyone know of a hop up rear shock tower that does not bend ,,,I have been threw 2 hpi towers and one hot racing and with very little abuse on small jumps they will not stop bending ... any help would be appericated:D |
RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread
I use the carbon fiber ones on my Hellfire and have had no problem with them. I also added the rear wing kit to the shock tower and have to say that it made flying over jumps ease and i no longer seem to me nose heavy.

RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread
rear shock tower
i was going to pick up the carbon fiber one and a review said it is very brittle and may snap in a rollover,,, does it take the abuse of a track |
RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread
The ones i have take the abuse. I also have the wing atached to the rear shock tower and have had no problem with it. I have had the shock towers for about 3 mo. and race every friday.
here are some pics of the track that i race at and you can see the jumps we crash on. http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2...e/IMG_1176.jpg http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2...e/IMG_1046.jpg http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2...e/IMG_0970.jpg http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2...e/IMG_0786.jpg http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2...e/IMG_0783.jpg |
RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread
thanks for the info,,,do you have a part # and a source to buy them ...i think tower hobbys has these
|
RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread
I got mine on E-Bay. From Xtreme Racing . About 37.00 for a pair. You can mount the mugen wing kit to the shock tower.

RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread
Have run about 3/4 gallon thru my Hellfire and I love it. Is there a shim kit for this truck or what do you guys use as shims to take out a little slop?

RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread
hey, guys.
okay, so i've had the hellfire for about a month now. here were some of the problems i had, and some that my lhs have told me. 1) front lower suspension arms broke. i got the revised ones. i heard there was a defect in the original design. is it under warranty? 2) the clutch bell got stripped against the spur gear. i didn't touch it from factory setting. is this under warranty? three) my steering servo broke. i bought a jr z650m (140 oz) and the old steering servo arm keeps getting stripped against the new servo. any recommendations? 4) my pull start will slip sometimes. is this under warranty? 5) my lhs said that he experiences a lot of leaks in the carbs on HPI trucks. 6) i hear about the rear bearings going bad in the engine. any body with this problem? Okay, please tell me other problems that other people are having with the hellfire. so far, i love this car. Thanks, Trung |
RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread
call hpi for new arms, clutch bell stripped???, make sure u have the right servo arm on there the stock one has a different # of teeth than the JR there is different ones in the box, dont pull so hard or get a starter box (much easier), i havent heard of any leaks with this engine but if it does a little silicon will help,
|
RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread
also go to TRUGGYRACERS.COM and go to setup portion and there is everything u will need.
|
RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread
thanks for the reply.
yeah, it's weird that the clutch bell got stripped. the spur gear and the cb are both metal. i guess it wasn't meshing right from the factory. but the teeth on the cb are about half gone. the arms on from the JR box are white, and although the fit the servo, the screw hole that connects the link to the servo are tiny. what did you guys do to make the screw go into the hole? thanks. trung |

RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread
no, i'm talking about in the box that came with the hellfire there are diff. sizes of horns in there.
|
RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread
why no silicone and does that include blue rtv
|
RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread
what are horns? what do they do? and I got them in my RTR box?
Oh yeah, for some reason, my rear wheels/tires aren't moving when i give it gas. the front will spin, but the rear won't. I picked it up into the air and spun the rear wheels/tires, and they spun so freely without making any sort of metal meshing noise. what happened? thanks. |
