how well does the rtr run in grass? how high is the ground clearence on it?

stussman 12-08-2007 08:08 PM

RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread

The 4.6 k engine in the rtr has good torque so it goes ok on grass. You adjust the ride height with the spacers they provide you.

RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread

i just bought a used hellfire ss w/o an engine
so im looking at an engine..

has any tried the axial .28 in the hellfire?
http://www.rcplanet.com/Axial_28_Eng...y_p/axi002.htm

can i use the savage clutch bell and clutch shoes and flywheel ect?

what tooth clutch bell should i get to go with the axial .28?
whats stock?
does it matter if i get a 2 or 3 clutch shoe fly wheel?
how do i know what to get?! lol

i heard that the stock diffs die very quickly, true?
i also heard that a savage diff fits it perfectly and works great, true?

(ive edited this so many times, lol)

RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread

For the axial you would want to run a 15T vented racing bell HPI makes, the kit comes with a 3 shoe flywheel and a 13t clutch bell stock. Just take your time and make sure you shim the diffs and they won't break.

thanks heaps! :)
nice car!!
how do i shim the diffs??

stussman 12-22-2007 11:37 PM

RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread

Its easier than you think. After i first did mine recently i realised how important shimming is. Do a search as the question has been answered many times. I have the new os28 in my hellfire and it certainly tested the diffs. Let us know how you go.

RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread

Basically you get a shim kit full of these shims. Then you add them to the shaft till you feel very little slack meaning little play when you turn the gears and they still spin smooth with little resistance at the same time.

The guy at my LHS said that they actually make more of a profit making the RTR version compared to the kit.

I have no idea how that would really work, but he knows his stuff when it comes to HPI.

My LHS still has quite a few kits in stock, they've bundled the RTR with BadLands and an extra body and 5% off the price.

Pretty good buy for a beginner.

What engine do yu plan to drop into it.?

RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread

the axial .28 or the axial .32

seems obvious bout is the .32 better than the .28?

stussman 12-27-2007 12:58 AM

RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread

Both are ok for bashing, the 32 has more torque but not a high top speed. Id go the 28 for a good allround mill. If your gunna race id go a better 28 than the axial.

rhysdejager 12-27-2007 07:43 AM

RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread

im gonna be bashing :D:D
so im thinking the 32
tho the ppl im driving with have 1/10 stadium trucks s they will haave high top end
i think i'll get the 32 and gear it up if it too slow :)

RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread

Dose anyone know where they can still get hellfire SS? anywhere online? im thinking about using a RB WS7 engine with jammin JP-3 pipe, and will indeed a starter box work with the rtr or ss hellfire at all? any comments appreciated.

stussman 12-27-2007 08:49 PM

RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread

The rtr comes with a 4.6 pullstart but you can use a bump box as well. I dont no if the rb is a pullstart or not but it should fit the both hellfires ok.

RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread

i bought the axial .28 :)
it didnt come with a glow plug :S lol
is it ok to use the os A3 and %10 in it?

how close do i put the pinion and spur, they make a lot of noise atm, is that just becasue there both metal?
how close should i put them together, is it the same as with a plastic spur?

is it alright to break it in with a exhaust pipe made for a .15?
i got a pipe comming but its in the mail :(:(

MAN!!!, I bought my Hellfire RTR 2 months ago. This was my first ever rc ANYTHING!!! After crashing into everything and learning the basics this thing is now AWESOME!!! I swapped original steering servo with a Futaba, new axial motor, high flow airfilter, various aluminum steering components. What an awesome hobby.(although a little expensive at times.) Im thinking of my next purchase, something 2 wheel drive and FAST!!! for dirt track. any recomendations? what are some good mods for my Hellfire?

THNX

a guy at my lhs asked if a HPI Racing Nitro Star K4.6 Engine w/Pull Start can fit a hellfire.

stussman 01-02-2008 06:55 PM

RE: Official HPI Hellfire Thread

The k4.6 comes with the rtr hellfire and also fits the ss. There is heaps of info in this thread on mods etc and also at truggyracers.com.
