Question: Are the pushrods shown in the CARF P47 documentation 3MM thread?

I would like to find out the threaded rod size so that I can order some titanium threaded rod in the same size and get it sent over to Graham in the UK. Just trying to make sure he has everything for the build before he gets to the stage where he needs it.

To me it looks like the InZpan cockpit route will be the way to go once it is ready for the CARFP47 scale; it was told it will cost about 350 euro.

Hi, Richard,

Congratulations on an ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING instruction manual; no doubt the best ever for a CARF model. The nice thing about it, is that it makes this large machine easy to build even for pilots with limited experience in building all composite planes. Good for you and good for CARF!

Thank you for the compliments
My goal is for every P-47 purchased to be successfully built and flown...and if builders find the manual enjoyable to use, all the better!

It is a beautiful kit of an iconic aircraft and I am privileged to be a part of its success.[8D]

As far as the CARF cockpit... it does not compare with some of the scale kits soon to be available. Having communicated with Andreas Gietz, I can confidently state that he concurs with my statement. But neither does it add $300 Euros to the price of the kit.

Andreas competed at TOP GUN with the simple CARF cockpit, winning the Pro-Am class. For the average sport modeler and flyer, the CARF should be sufficient.

I will use the CARF parts and doll them up to the best of my ability. The finished product will certainly be superior to an empty cockpit

Hopefully they will delete your posts here. I hate when the lunatic fringe signs up for an account just to trash a good thread.

so what pilots are you guys using on your P-47s ? I like the ones from http://www.maffscav.de/piloten.html and i have a 1/4.5 for my MB339 and its super, however i dont believe they have ww2 style pilots ...

also, does anyone have a light/lense kit available for the CARF P-47?

Locating the correct WWII pilot has been a real challenge. I have not yet found one.

The cockpit kit for this aicraft does come with the proper sized pilot, but he is rather crude. Perhaps some clever artwork would make him suitable for high level competition? dont know...

Not sure about a lense kit, but would check with suppliers of Jim Meister kits, as the Meister P-47 is close in size.

If you are going to do the full depth Dynamic Balsa cockpit like I am, then fighteraces in the UK has a 1/4 wwII pilot that should work fine with a slight seat height adjustment.

Check the dimensions of the Premiere Pilot offerings.
While they state they are "1/4 scale" the dimensions seem perfectly appropriate for the CARF P-47.

Example: A typical WWII fighter pilot would have been about 5 foot 10 inches tall; that is 70 inches.
22.5% of 70 inches is 15.75 inches.

The Premiere Pilots do appear to be this dimension.

HI Mike
Some shots of the pilot,You can trim the glass back to the blue line safely,If you are going to do a sliding canopy
I would say there if room to do so, The black line on the foam with the pilot is the profile of the canopy,
The 1/4 scale dash as is,Is just a bit to big I,am going to make my owne with componants that I have from INZPAN.
If you need anymore info just ask.

John, thanks for posting pics .. that pilot looks just right for that cockpit size... Im still waiting to hear from Inzpan if they will have a cockpit kit for the CARF P-47, .. if not im going with the Dbalsa kit and I will just use some of the inzpan instruments instead as the detail on them is juts super ..

It is my understanding that Inzpan needs the cockpit measurements and they will get started. If someone that has their CARFP47 would do this, it could help get things moving with them.

Default RE: CARF-Models P-47 Thunderbolt

Here is that fabled landing with NO TAILWHEEL! What happened is that the night before I removed the restrictor that slowed my gear door/tailwheel circuit. I thought that by doing that, I would resolve the issue with the right inner main gear door not coming up. I could get it to come up with a hesitation roll, but I wanted it to just come up reliably all the time and I figured that removing the restrictor on that circuit would fix it... IT DID! BUT, it caused the tailwheel to get hung up on the rudder cables. As I landed the plane and began feeding in left rudder (as the plane was drifting right) it somehow came loose from the cable and popped out just as the tail was settling!![X(]
No amount of high G maneuvers or even the hard set down managed to get it to pop out.. just the left rudder input.... JUST in the nick o' time!

Richard,
What size servo arms are you using for each control surface. I did not see it in the instructions (recommendation) or if you already stated, I apologize for asking again. On the ailerons, it looks like 1in., flaps and elevator 1.5in. and rudder 3in???
Thanks for your help!
Tim
