Hi snickarn,
Cool !! I have seen your D9 in the videos !! How hard would it be to fit the OS320 in the D9 ? I would have to move the fire wall in any project so that's not a big deal. But I really don't want to cut the cowl to make the heads fit.
Everything I've read / seen says it would fit pretty easily???

Hi snickarn,
I found this Corsair flying the OS 320FF on a 20x10x3 at 6,700rpm. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3wG57C0grE0
That looks to be about 28lbs of thrust at a 63mph pitch speed. Where as a 19x10x3 would turn 7,200rpm pulling 27lbs at a 68mph ps.
Both of those set ups are flying on videos on the YouTubes.... So I know the rpms and props are correct. I ran the numbers to get an idea of what they were producing.
Have you tried a 3 blade?

Thanks Dowmer, I got tired of detailing and just wanted to fly it. The canopy is pneumatic which is cool to operate. Weathering has never been a strength for me. Any suggestions? I heard chalk or a diluted model masters smoke with brown wash would do the trick.

Ram,
Chalks work but I don't particularly care for them unless you cover them with a clear coat to seal it. I prefer a grimy mix of watered down brownish black and gray. I normally use plain old latex. I smear it on and then wipe it off so that it gets into all the panel lines and rivets. Then spray on the brownish sooty exhaust. Don't forget to chip with a little silver.....
I hear ya, sometimes you want the detailing to end so you can get the bird in the air. That's why I'm not detailing mine too much on RCSB. I want to fly it. Later I'll tear it down and detail (I actually enjoy detailing more than building) But right now I just want to get a good everyday flyer up in the air.....with some extras of course with the cowl flaps etc.
Cheers,
jason

I hear you. I like to build and customize more then anything else. Those cowl flaps are sick!! I took plenty of notes from your build. I studied Evos also and wanted to do that but your method just made more sense. Have you done a video of its operations yet?? I'd love to see that working.
I'm building two Meister scale FW190's now, both the D11 and Anton. They'll be my fun wulfs! My other ESM is sitting in the garage on hold possibly until I kill this one. I couldn't justify having two of them financially with the boss!!

Thanks Ram,
I have to admit, I get lazy and like to use stuff that is readily available at hardware stores. I'm totally envious of guys like Evo that can make that stuff from scratch but I don't have those mad skills or tools.
I'll look into into making a video. The cowl flaps are on a slider so I can move them like I want. They turned out better than I had hoped. It really didn't take that long. More head scratching than anything. If they can just withstand all the vibration :P
We all have to keep the boss at bay ...lol. My biggest problem is trying to fit the darn plane in the car or Jeep. Not an easy feat.

Thanks Dave !!
Great info..... I was watching that thread but missed if you've updated it lately. I've had my head down in various builds as it's a harsh winter here and no fun flying in weather that's around 0°F and windy....
I keep thinking a gyro hooked into the pilot... Something like your loop for all flap down operations (taxiing, landing, etc..) and then when you go flaps up the gyro would take over making his head and body "float" naturally as the plan moved.... If that makes sense. Since I've never worked with the programing I have no idea of how the gyro would interact with control or loop inputs or if you could combine them.... Reversing channels of the gyro as needed to get the pilot to look in the direction wanted on his own as you flew would give it another level of realism. I know YTInternational was going to market Churchill pilots but have checked to see if they made it into YT's stuff yet. There were noises of updates to the line up. Not sure what they were planning but I'll go poke around when I get a chance. Great work with Hans !!! Glad to see him back in the D9 and not out on R&R on the self !!!!!

Edit: I just watched your videos full screen at 1080..... .... I thought my #16's were good.... I got some great shots on those when we went slope soaring. Both video and the 5 second timelapse. At the slope we fly for an hour at at time and the time lapse gave me well over 1,000 pics as I flew one keyfob flight for an hour and twenty minutes !! I just got tired and had to land. No real need to come down !!
You can see the fun here. http://youtu.be/Mn2gKvKwKuA or the short 15 minute version here http://youtu.be/xt2Urt7EwGg

Hey Guys,
I was at the USAF Museum a couple weeks ago and took a bunch of pics for my upcoming D9 project and will upload them here in a couple of posts. These were taken with a Cannon G9 point and shoot camera and a tiny tripod that folds down to 3 inches. So some are better than others as far as sharpness. But they keep it dark in the museum. I found ways to shoot around other displays and through cracks in displays behind the D9. I think I got a few shots you don't normally see with the plane in it's present location.
Here we go.....
Edit: I guess I should add the "title" FW-190 D9 Walkaround in this post so the Google might find these pics for others looking.

Last set.... Sorry for the blurry ones... I just uploaded the entire photo session.
I didn't have time this morning to sort, delete and organize the pics.
Generally the shots from behind the wings and of the rear views of the tail were from behind cracks in the walls of other displays and a lot of the lower shots were from me sitting on the floor and schooching around. lol
Enjoy....

Thanks Dave,
We go to the USAF Museum once a year. A lot of those are blurry.... But considering I had a point and shoot and a 3 inch tripod I was able to get decent photos that you can read well enough to help with detailing. I have a new Lumix G6 on the way and will be able to get better pics next year I hope. This project may give me the "justification" to get a new lens or two before then ???
Like I need..... justification. lol.

I'm maidening my Fok D VII tomorrow and I ordered 4 more batteries for the Dora! They should be here in about a week or so and then she's going up too! Thanks all for the landing tips! I have the flaps set to 45 degrees so she should slow down nicely!

Really like that scheme!
I have had mine sitting off to the side for some time now as I really don't like the color scheme, and a few other things. Did you glass and paint yours, or did you paint the covering? I'm assembling an ESM Tigercat now, and the fit of the parts, and hinge points is really bothering me. Good thing its dark colored, because its a 15 footer right out of the box!
I'm thinking of bashing the Dora to improve these things, BUT on the other hand, it's to be a weekend flier, and I would really like it ready to fly this spring. Just wondering is you painted the covering, or went all the way. Either way, it looks really good!
