Hard to tell it but looks like you added leading edge armor plating? Did you use 1/64 ply ,or something else?

Is that the iflytailies cockpit kit? Did you have to do a bunch of trimming, or was it a pretty good fit?

Thanks
Hi 70 ragtop, thank you for your comments.

cockpit is from AEROCOCKPIT but i see that IFLYTALES has the same cockpit too.
No trimming at all for the main instruments panel, for the side panels i had to cut about an inch at the end of the panels to make them fit but its very easy in that case and i didnt have any difficulties at all.

all of my wing surface is covered with a material same as FLITESKIN so the leading edge too.
all the other surface except leading edge was made by one piece of 0,4 mm FLITESKIN. for the leading edge i used 0,3 mm FLITESKIN and every panel at the leading edge is a different part like the full scale. i did that in order to get the right curvature.

Hahaha, now that's funny!!

Here are some pic's I have already posted up, but I can take fresh ones if you like. I also have to move my sports bike, and it's bed time, but no luck on a good looking bird next door
You can see that I took to one of the rails to add the angle. the rear rail is also angled on the outboard side to suit the angle I was trying to achieve.

I was also told to just bend the axle, but that concept didn't sit great with me either. my wheels wells have been made bigger at the front of the wing as a consequence.

Thanks

dave

Ram, ticketec it owe you guys for going above and beyond the call of duty (flashing neighbors in your underwear) and braving the cold. BTW, happy belated Bday Ram. I'll take a look but I'm afraid I will have to bend the axles if it won't taxi well.

Happy b-day Ram!

BTW since it's your b-day, shouldn't the neighbor be flashing you?

Interesting, I had not thought of that. Did you apply the "fliteskin" directly over the open bays? That would certainly save time, no wood work and no glassing! How much weight did it gain doing it that way? Any chance you could post some earlier pixs....before all the details

Thanks

i applied the fliteskin directly on the top surface of the wing. i didnt even removed the balsa skin because that would be a very little gain of weight.
on the other side fliteskin plus balsa skin makes the wing bulletproof with minimal work!the wing seems a lot to sist wing with that method ( of course its not a sist!).
you got the point about not having to deal with glassing and wood work!
extra weight might be about 500 gr but i think that in this plane which has a long nose and balances more easily than A8, 500 gr extra weight is not a problem.instead of 0,4 mm someone could use 0,3 mm in all over the surface so extra weight could be less. the more scale the model is the more weight it has.

Hello to everybody! Has anyone used DLE 55RA or DLE 60 twin to this plane? Is there any photo available? My spare engine is DL50 but I hate to cut so much the cowl and the firewall to accommodate the exhaust.

Digiatr, over at RCSB they recommend .007 inch (0.18 mm) fiberglass for such a job.

What kind of glue did you use? Link?

I would be curious to see what glue was used as well. Having built the Fliteskin 109, I know that Jose suggests using gorilla glue after sanding the bonding side well with 100 grit sandpaper. There were instances on my build, as it is electric, where I used thin CA to bond access panels to the skin. As I have little or no vibration with the electric motor, it should not be an issue. I think it might be a problem if one was running a gas motor, that after a while the vibration would cause the panels to pop off. Of course this is assuming that you've only use CA to bond the panels to the balsa skins.
I know that even during the process of wrapping the fiteskin around the leading edge's, that they(gun fairing panels) had a tendency to pop off if not taped down and held correctly. I had it pop off twice, before I was finally able to get it mate well.

i used gorilla glue to attach the fliteskin to the balsa surface of my wing and thin CA at the points where i wanted to have a quick bond (at each panel of the leading edge of my wing). i havent tested my plane in real flight yet to see if CA is strong enough but i will as soon as possible ( i dont think i will have any problems).

A bit, but workable in comparison to nothing at all for a model not 100% accurate. It would still look awesome.

Dunkindeno is this yours? Is it possible to have a picture from the bottom? Or do you know if you had to cut the firewall to accomodate the exhaust?

engine came to life today for the first time! we couldnt start it manually until we used a big starter that a friend of mine gave to us after his arrival at the field. it turns a fiala 24x8 3 blade at 6.700 rpms while still breaking in! i am very satisfied with that result and i am thinking of using 25x8 or 26x8 3 blade as a final prop. custom exhaust seems to work fine at the moment.

Dgiatr,
fighteraces has them
http://www.fighteraces.co.uk/product...xhaust-stacks/

or you can dress the ones in the kit up. I show how to do it on my build thread on RCSB. I also show how I made the radiator in the front.
