RE: DeHavilland Mosquito 81
I think it's really cool also motrio that a lot of guys have started building the Mossie because of this thread and great timing w/ the work going on in New Zealand, I've always liked this plane and it has a great history but never got as much air time as most of the other fighters and it was the fastest one!
Well the P-38 didn't get as much as the P-51, Spit, corsair, Jug and Hellcat but I like that one really good also. My all time fav. is the corsair w/ the inverted gull wing and
I grew up watching the BA-BA BLACK SHEEP, one of those it on my list of birds to build and it may be next.
I'm thinking a single engine for the next one because the other one is the PBY and that's really involved.
Well to day I started on the exhaust pipes I'm making them of course I can't see paying $30 for a 90 degree elbow so check how I did it, but I have to go back and cut it down about a 1/2 inch off the cowl hits and stops it from going all the way on, this is the price you pay when you make all of your own parts and don't have a CAD program, but It's not that bad and fixable.
Toast & Hemikiller I took the feed to the carb out and ran a set screw w/ a drop of
CA glue on it this seams to be more better than bending over the hose w/ zip tie.so that's it for the day check the progress or the lack of anyway

Thanks david we have a bunch of guys into this plane now and there are two other guys building Mossies now and two others getting ready to start I didn't even realize when I started building this that they were restoring a Mossie
this has just been fantastic so far and I think even more people will become interested in building one!!

Well I'm glad I didn't even try to put the OS 95-V in this plane there's hardly enough room for all of the things going on w/ the 70 size engine and I thought w/ this cowlings size everything would fit very easy, but it very tight and to get the on board drive system in also??
Today I went back and cut off about 1/2" off both ends of the header and changed the angles where the fittings are and now it fits, it doesn't look like much work has been done but it took the afternoon and I still have to do the second one yet.
here's what it 's looking like. photo #1 is what it use to look like.

Well I stayed up all night and mounted the second engine and made the other header
and worked on a spring type mount for the pipes.

I think it's great what you're doing with this model but just need to backup something mentioned earlier regarding the refueling valves.
I've lost track of all the engines, including my own that we traced erratic performance down to those valves. Nothing but trouble.
They're sure neat and dandy... but actually aint worth the bother. Build them out now whilst you have the opportunity because you'll be bypassing them at a later stage. Garanteed.

David...Idon't know if you read the whole last post but the fuel filler will do just that now only fill the tank! IT WILL NOT
BE HOOKED TO THE CARB the tank will have three lines a presure line,a line just to the carb from the clunk, and the fuel fill line!
Casey I have no idea what that means unless your an O's fan..LOL and I don't think you are!

I know you said the OS 95's would be too big, but do you think those 70's will be enough to fly your Mossie? It's still not too late to make the plane electric................[X(][X(]LOL

First run of a Mosquito engine.
About 13 minutes into the "Close up" program on TV1 tonight.
You need to let the opening advert run before you can move to 13 minutes.
Attached are some pix from the day.
