Default Spitfire Stencils

I just thought would let you guys know I am working on some Stencils for Merlin Powered Spits and will post them on my site when done. Dr Franke sent me some spit stuff and had some stencils in there for a 1/48 th scale spit which I am redoing in corel and will have them in various sizes 1/8 , 1/6, 1/5, 1/4, and 1/3 scales I will do them in corel and as tiff files and those of you that want to make your own decals or send them off to have them cut can. myself I will be using them to make paint masks so I can just airbrush them in. I will also be tracing the plane views with stencil locations on them to go with them.

Joe,

When I did mine I used a combination of the 1:48 Aeromaster Spitfire Stencils (squadron.com), item 148-009, and the SuperScale Decals No. 48-722 (also available from Squadron), for Spitfire Aces. I spent a long time trying to find a font that exactly matched what was used on the spitfires, but found that it often differed from plane to plane, so I finally settled on the 'stencil' truetype font in word. I did all my decals on the computer and was very pleased with the end result. The picture below is after I sprayed some gloss to help the decal sit flat, and before the final flat clear coat over which really sealed them off nicely!

Sent you an email. just drop that file in with the rest of your fonts in the windows directory on your computer.

Sean, don't forget to update us on your flights ok?.. I also found the Brit font do be different than anything we used in the US. I ended creating some in CAD for the side lettering on my plane. Next time, I will pick something close and use that lol! BobH.

Hi Joe, the stencils look great and are much appreciated.

I have corel v.10 but I am missing the fonts you have used for the stencil, did you custom make the fonts? The fonts that come up missing when I launch the file are "Stencil-Normal" and "Txt-Normal"

Are you able to share these new fonts?

Thanks

Norman

Just FYI, the Aero Details book on the Spitfire Mk1-5 has a page showing all the stencils in the correct fonts for those versions of the Spit. Most are probably applicable to the later marks also.

Joe, if you need me to, I can scan the page for you.

Thanks Chad I have that one and used it to help with these stencils for the ones that were even too tiny to read with a magnifying glass.

joe, doesn't corel allow you to save them as jpeg format? i believe you can export them as jpegs to a file. just a suggestion as we all can use jpeg format.

Yes Tinman I could but Tiff is a standard photo pic just as jpg is. The only reason I stick with tiff is most all photo progs wiull open tiff files and a lot of print sotres require tiff files and the most important of all reasons is that you lose quality with jpgs so to get the highest quality I can I keep them as tiffs.

They look fantastic, Thank you!! I'm going to be in the process of putting together a semi-scale Mk5 that I really want to look as authentic as I possibly can and these are going to be a Tremendous help! I am also going to be(sometime in the future) putting together a House of Balsa .40 size D model Mustang. Think you may have some for the Merlin powered mustangs?
