And all I was pointing out was that it would take more HP to get speed out of a round engine aircraft compared to all the P-51s that were being cited.
It's a fact of the laws of physics.
You can't compare apples to oranges & expect the same level of performance from a prop.

I was just trying to answer a prop question.

Hmmm....TF GS FW190 ARF Discusion Thread now a Full Size Engine Discussion Thread and before that was starting stand options....just saying

yes the same prop will be faster on the inline plane than the radial. My Mustang has flown with a T/F T-bolt with same engime and prop. The Mustang was faster.

RE: TF FW190 GIANT ARF
Thanks for all the great advise I think I'll go with the DA60. And I think I'm going to try that Apc T6 20x15 on my TF p51 giant does anybody else on here know about that prop?

That really looks good Ram. Great job. You notice in the front view pic how the wheels are not perfectly vertical? (90 degrees to ground) I was fighting this with my TA 152. At the correct dihedral angle per the plans, and the Sierra gear, I was not able to get my wheels perfectly vertical. This matters as I am trying to match a 3 view for competition. I have my dihedral where I want it, but will have to modify my gear mounts to get the struts to be in the exact position needed. Such is scale modeling!
Bring that thing up to Love-air. I wanna fly with you!

I didn't notice it. I guess you could modify the gear mounts to adjust but I was just happy with getting them installed Contact Sierra, it should be an easy change. I hope to get a few more flights on her over the next few weeks. Time is getting harder to find for the fun stuff with kids; now that the weather is warmer but we'll find some time for a road trip. I'm looking for a trailer to support the hobby or I can only do one plane at a time.
My buddy calls pictures like these " airplane porn". I should have some "inflight porn" soon..
Oooh baby, Focke wulf 190..lol

Yup... Flies good. lands good. Typical FW190 She's a keeper! I had to add 2.9 lbs. of lead. Final weight, 31.8oz. No pictures of the flight, the field was really dead, possibly because everyone was out enjoying the holiday weekend.

Great looking Butcher Bird. I really like your paint scheme too............................... So, what's going on your build table next?
Take care,

I'll question stats where and when I feel they are not on a level playing field.
Quoting how many Inlines there are at Reno only makes it even more special when a Radial takes a win.
I'm sure there's pro's and con's for both - it just seems that Radials are used when absolute power is required. For example, I can't think of a big bomber that ran Inlines - but then again, I'm not a historian like you seem to be.
And I've asked you for info re spark conversion of glow gear - so there's no animosity there AFIIK.
The FW 190 was a rather successful plane - Radial engined plane.
It must have had something good going for it.
And it's an airframe that I will eventually get into my 'hangar'.

I appreciate all the build notes (and pics) in this thread. This is the next project after the mustang and I like the mods. Trying to figure out how to mod the canopy to make it sliding.
I will be using the DLE55re with a reducer at 1.55 designed for 300hr service life and dampened for single cyl vibration.

Kind of funny, but after seeing one of these fly a few weeks ago, stock, unmodified out of the box, It seemed to me that it may have been TOO light. That made it a little difficult for the pilot to land it as he was not getting it stalled properly at the right time. The extra weight may actually make it land easier for most, and also keep it a little more smooth in the air.

I have finally started assembly of my big wurger.
All is going well save for one snag. The supplied spar joiner has a couple of knots.
I'm just going to fabricate my own from ply and carbon fiber.
The pic of the main gear shows what happens when an A&P drops a set screw and can't find it.
Besides sometimes locktite just ain't enough. ;-)

Can't think of any bombers that used inlines? Really? Ever heard of an Avro Lancaster, Heinkel He-111, Tupolev SB2, Avro Lincoln, Avro Manchester, HE 177, etc etc etc ?

My buddy landed his a little bouncy and the doors took a beating because they dont slide like they are supposed to. Based on that I would recommend to all to consider the scale mod and make the lower door section slide with the lower strut.
The other option, which he took, was to cut the bottom of the door off to gain clearance. Since there are no inner doors to match up to its not that big of a deal.
This is a real obvious problem with the stock ARF Im kind of surprised this was allowed into production. Anything other than a perfect landing and you will ruin the stock doors.

I noticed this issue on my landing also. I was hoping that Tfarmer would make those cool after market ones he did for his. Having the extra weight, I may just follow his lead and make me some later or just remove the bottom door like the winter versions.
