RE: SCRATCH BUILT P-38M NIGHT LIGHTNING
Thanks Casey... I don't know what that fellow was talking about and I've asked but had no responce but it's safe and when I glue them in the whole thing has to come apart befor anything bad will happen.
Instead of the shrink tube I went one better I had some kind of poly tube left over from a Sullivan fuel tank and it's the right size so I taped that and coverd the screws a drop of CA on those and the threads on the back plate there not going anywhere!
I also like the idea of the corse sand paper behind the prop and I'll be adding that instead of the washers, the cones are in paint drying now and both spinners are ready for final assambley
the only thing left to do is drill the back plate the correct size to fit the engine!

Thanks again to all that gave me these ideas it really helps to have others points of view and even if I didn't use your idea it helped me come to the this final product.

RE: SCRATCH BUILT P-38M NIGHT LIGHTNING
I've been thinking about going back and working on the tail section befor getting into the cockpit details there's still quite a bit of major work to be done back there and I have all of the servos now and a friend has given me a photo of the tail section drawing of a Zeroli 38 so I can make mine simmilar and will be able to take the plane apart for transportation.
Still have to figure out how to do all of this and make the control serfaces work w/ hidden pushrods and horns, if yoou've been following along from the start you know I have got the rudders mostly thought through and each will have its owen HS-225MG mighty mini servo mounted in the tail of the boom and the elv will have two HS-81MG on each side mounted in the tail of the boom also.
So I think I'll start setting the booms on the mid wing section and jiging it up I'll most likely have to remake part of the stab or do some major reinforcing w/ carbon rod -tubes ply etc.

RE: SCRATCH BUILT P-38M NIGHT LIGHTNING
T<span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14.545454025268555px; ">his morning I started by fixing the airfoil on the STAB it was to flat so I had glued it up last night. I put two 1/16" x 2" strips down the STAB about in the center w/ Tite Bond wood glue and clamped it up w/ wooden calls. And then this morning sanded it to the proper shape most of it was sanded away but you'll see there is just enough to make it look better.</span><br style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14.545454025268555px; " /><br style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14.545454025268555px; " /><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14.545454025268555px; ">Then moved on to mounting the STAB to the tips that will mount in to the booms,</span><br style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14.545454025268555px; " /><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14.545454025268555px; ">there will be two 1/4" dowls and an ALUM tab w/ a 4-40 screw running through it into a brass insert locking it all together,</span><br style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14.545454025268555px; " /><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 14.545454025268555px; ">
The dowls run deep in to the tips and about 1" on the other end and will go into the center section of the STAB, the photos show it better than I can tell you.
I had a friend give me an idea for the ELV. servos location w/ the RDS system they will get mounted in the STAB it will be very tight but solves a whole lot of problems! There will be two HS 82MG servos one on each side and I'm working on a quick connect type hook up for the wiring.

RE: SCRATCH BUILT P-38M NIGHT LIGHTNING
Bruce,
Injoying your build.
I think when I start building I will employ the RDS system everywhere possible.
It is such a cleen system. So much nicer than control hornes sticking out.

RE: SCRATCH BUILT P-38M NIGHT LIGHTNING
Thank you Kevin ...Yes I think when doing scale builds it's nice if you can hide those horns and do a more sealistic
likeness, I've been working on the RDS all afternoon I have rehinged and cut out the bottom for one servo so far
The wires for the RDS will only be maybe 2" still working out the bugs and I'll post something later.

RE: SCRATCH BUILT P-38M NIGHT LIGHTNING
Bruce,
Do you think the hs82mg will have enough "sh*t in their britches" (as Gramps used to say) lol. I know that Futaba makes some very powerful and thin wing servos. I have used these in a glider with a very thin wing, and they were monsters for torque....

And some more, the ALUM parts that are oblong are for the RDS wire to go into. and the 3/16" tubes are for the hinges they run all the way forward and seat into the LE of the STAB and are glued in w/ gorilla glue.

Kevin Have you been following my build I don't BUY things like this, and I don't like the LAM pocket things
anyway I have made them for the Mossie build and was thinking there has to be something better easier
smaller. I'll take photos of my prosess of making them and installing them.
Always looking for a better easier way to make something.
