Thought y'all might enjoy a crazy update here.
My retired buddy Rich and I drove 2,600 miles in 4 days to inspect and, yes, purchase "Red 8" from the affable Pedro
I mean, what are ya gonna say at the end of a 1,300 mile drive: "Naw, I don't like it."??
I loved my last Airworld 190. I hope this one works out
As soon as I got back, I had to work double-time to pay for it: haven't had much of a chance to inspect more than briefly. It seems well-built and straight, although perhaps a little heavy: Total weight with all in except the CG lead is about 21.4 kg, the same as my last one with the Moki wieghed balanced.
That plus the 14 lbs Pedro says required for balance would be too heavy, but I plan to install some forward-projected weights off the firewall and put the ol' girl on a bit of a caboose diet, maybe keep the total weight below 50 lbs. I think this flat wing will fly that OK.
My shopping list for "stuff" is long, but nearing completion: props and drill guages for the 170, re-plumb the fuel system, flying spinner from Tru-turn, cowl baffles and screws, receivers, batteries, etc.
It baffles me why the builder glued the wing halves together: not a problem for my trailer, but Rich had to narrate the right rear view mirror for me on the way home. I may have to put a little saw gap on the dorsal side of the wing to make sure both wing tubes are there and secure.
If the builder is out there and recognizes the plane, feel free to chime in and relieve my insecurities.

Balancing yesterday, after some exploratory surgery and debridement of excess weight.
I am pleased that it only took 4.6 lbs of lead at the end of my "extender" to get the CG where I want it
For another pound of lead I can put the pilot and cockpit back in, but that brings total weight to 53 lbs
That's 5 lbs heavier than my sweet-flying first AW-190
I think the broad, flat-bottomed wing and the DLE-170 will haul it around, but might not handle quite so sweetly

Nice to see you replace that nice plane Mark. Should be a lot of fun coming for you. I wonder where the extra weight comes from on this bird? Sliding canopy gear? Tail retract? I don't recall seeing a lot of areas on the plane that seemed to avail themselves for weight gain or loss aside from those things really. Either way, I wouldn't think 5 lbs would make a big difference on this plane from where you were. A little maybe, but I don't think it would be too noticeable, particularly at flying speed. Landing approach probably a little, but not so much during flying probably. I've flown a couple of "fatter" FW's and they did very well even with a few extra pounds at 1/5 scale. Maybe it even made landing them a little more predictable since they tended not to float as much. Have fun. CU soon hopefully.

Yes, I think the 170 is way more engine than needed, but that's what it came with and "I can always throttle back" as the old cliche goes.
Size of engine didn't figure into weight, since it's all up front and I have to put 4-5 lbs even more on the nose.
I worry a little that the 170 might be enough power to rip the wings off when I can't resist making the occasional low-fast pass

The plane was just built solidly in all aspects: thick beads of glue and reinforced bulkheads at all points, tail servos in the rear, thick shelving for all the installation points, etc... Admirable in its solididty, but lacking in the sorta miserly attitude I tend to have on materials and glue in warbird tails. And then there's always the doggone tailwheel. Probably a pound or more in the mechanism and attachments and bracing and glue. It's so far back, probably adds at least 2 lbs to the lead on the nose. All for a tailwheel that was only partly retractable in the real thing!
One of the ways I made my Meister so light was to dispense with the retractability altogether (the other thing being Quisenberry framed it up)
I don't think I can bring myself to give it up for the AirWorld, though.

Phone jammers can really be a good item to keep the phones quiet in the public places. Although it is traditionally used in military field, it can be taken into application in many other circumstances I think.

So far, my research on the 170 has turned up:
Run 4.8v only on the ignition
Change the factory plugs to CM-6's
30X12 two-blade or 28X12 3B
Should be plenty of power and more reliable than the #!%*&! Moki
I hope to have it and one other newbie maidened by Owatonna time
I might bring my big 17 up there earlier to get it dialed in on the long runway

Hey guys trying to get my Airworld Wulf back in flying condition. This one as old WABO retracts, which have developed a leak in the cylinder. Anyone out there have a scratch and dent set or parts of WABO gear for the Airworld?
Also need a another spinner for two blade prop...anyone have a old one laying around for sale.

Yeah, I've got a couple of the factory spinners lying around.
They've never been dinged, but are hardly worth the postage to mail them
I hate that kind of spinner with the little screw holes that wear out after about 5 flights
Be alright for a display model
Both the gear sets I have are Sierra and I guess I'm not willing to give either of them up

Same is true of my RC products, although I am making slow progress on the Fw
The stuff that was in it isn't bad: it's just not my kind of stuff, so I have ripped out all the electronics short of the servos, which are good, re-plumbed the fuel system, made a cowl ring to get rid of external screws, built the forward lead rack, but the tail and the cockpit on a diet, etc, etc
The only major project I haven't tackled, or even decided yet, is whether to re-engineer the gear mounts like I did my first one after a soft maiden landing pushed the gear rails through the top of the wing. I was really proud of my finished result, but it's a lot of work
Miss flying with you guys! One weekend here and one there per year doesn't seem enough
Frank flew his giant B-29 for 2nd and 3rd times today: really a good flyer, but a lot of work to transport and assemble

Just a little update. Flying behind schedule, as usual. major death in the family last summer consumed my prep time
Finally got the Air World 190 out on my driveway with first breath of spring to run the engine and test the radio.
Over the winter, I added an on-board tach to the 170 and a new kill switch.
Right aileron showed a bothersome random twitch which I couldn't isolate by component replacement, even infected the left aileron servo at random intervals. So I installed all new wiring in the wing and a couple new JR8411's. Seemed to fix the problem.
DLE-170 pulls a Xoar 30X12 two-blade 6600 rpm.
Is that too fast?
I'm a little afraid it will rip my wings off!
Runs very smoothly, but the prop tips really sing. Prop tip speed calculates to only 580 mph
Having trouble loading the pic. Promise video for maiden, no matter what.

The throttle fluctuations are not me being spastic, they are me trying to find a mid-range which I never seemed to have.
Nice smooth transition on the ground.
Ideas:
1) put the cowl on it
2) route a tube from the diaphragm nipple to the backside of the firewall
3) vent stack
4) lean low end some more
5) program a throttle curve on my 12X
Or some combination of the above

Report on Flight # 2
Got some expert help with the DLE-170 tuning, found a possible gasket leak on the diaphragm plate, ran a tube back from the diaphragm to behind the firewall, put coupla tanks of fuel through it, to get low end lean enough and upper end just off peak, then programmed a throttle curve on the ground running.
Good news is the DLE ran great, although it sounds a little throaty in midrange
Plane flew great, as usual, until right gear door separated and impersonated a huge left aileron deflection for the rest of the flight. Got it under control, but landed heavy left and did a hard nose-over. Didn't harm the prop or the gear, but motor mount seems a little flimsy: will have to expose that and check it out

I was there for this flight... And it was some of the worst luck I have seen at the field this year...
I suppose the ending could have been worse.. but it was about the oddest thing to happen.. the plane flew rock solid until that gear strut cover twisted around ....

I finished my Airworld FW190 earlier this year Although it is not really "scale" it is one of the best flying warbirds I ever owned. Slow speed handling is fantasic. I have a Moki 250 for power wiedling a Menz 32x18 - However i will change to a 3 bladed scale prop from Fuchs or SL Propeller during winter.
Does anyone know a good cockpit kit for this model?
