Default New Warbird

Hey guys, just have afew questions here on what I should get for my first warbird. I am looking for something around .60 size. I have been looking at the Hangar 9 p-51 blue nose, with a evolution 61nx or saito fg-20. If you guys have any suggestions they are most welcome. Thanks.

I think it's hard to beat a P-47 for good flying and ground handling. It has good moment arms, wide gear, and more wing area.

Top-Flite P-47 60 size ARF would be an excellent choice with a DLE 20 gas engine. Awesome flying plane, has flaps too.

Plus 1 on Hellcat's recommendation. I have the same setup and it flies great!

The H9 Bluenose mustang looks really nice but has had some issues with wing spar and retract design and functionality. Don't know if they have fully ironed out all of the wrinkles, so Ican't recommend it fully. I would also agree that the Top Flight P-47 would be good. DLE 20 sounds perfect. It is of good size and looks great.

If you want to go bigger and have the room for storage and transportation, I have an ESM Val that is an absolute sweetheart.. It has a huge forgiving wing and flies like a big 'ole trainer! Ihave a DLE 30 for power andone of the best things about it is NO RETRACTS. Ihaven't doneit yet on mine, but Ithink it needs some Robart oleo struts to help cushion all 17.25 lbs on less thanperfect landings. It would require a little creative modifying to mate with the wheel pants however.

The best advice I could give you, is try to resist a bunch of scale detail and extra weight until you become more comfortable flying warbirds. Lighter wingloading is what you are after.

Good Luck and Have Fun!

Normally I'd agree, but he does'nt sound like a Giant Scaler, but I'd definitely recommend building a plane over an arf anyday.

Thanks for all your suggestions, the Top Flite P-40 looks really nice but I think I'll go with one of the Hangar 9 warbirds like the P-47. The really nice thing about those planes is that they come with retracts installed.
I would like to put a gas engine in it because I've heard their a lot cheaper to run, but I will go with a glow if that is a better choice. I looked at the ESM models but I can't seem to find any prices for them, very nice models though. Your help is appreciated.
