After you cut out the slide in the fuse those discs glue to the inside back of the canopy and slide in the groove on the fuse, the placement of these is important so they done come out of the slot when you slide the canopy forward

PILOT....

I went to several toy stores and found GI JOE figures one of which was a "P-51 Pilot" and my personal favorite was a Joe Foss Pilot all are 1/5 scale and about 20-40 bucks.....check ebay. Spending over $100 is crazy.....

Finished my graphics today.....just waiting for the mount and kill switch and I'll be finished.

I appreciate the more skilled builders on here providing input it helps us down in the lower ranks!

How did your balance come out with that 24oz of nose weight!?? Of course you know that means they put it all in the cowling! I put 1 pound in the cowling cause I didnt want all that stress on it and two 2lbs weights on both sides of the fire wall, of course im going to rebalance after I put my bomb drops and pilot in!!

Not sure if I was clear.....there was some plastic discs as well....I am thinking the older kits had the plywood discs, they are not needed anymore as per Hangar 9.

I am at 30oz......and it is all installed around the engine box. Waiting for my hub/prop spinner, and new mount and then recheck my cg

Test ran the G-62....purred like a kitten, pulled the engine and waiting for the new mount. One more weight and balance check and I am ready to maiden.

Anyone else have problems mounting the eflite payload release units? One worked perfectly fine, but the ply but the ply insert and the cutouts in the pylon on the right hand unit were all wrong, had to modify it a bit. Just curious if anyone had this also.

COMPLETED!

Finished mine at 1100 am today.....

Did the weight/balance and she came out:

29.8 LBS. With Zenoah G-62/Spring Starter.
2700 MAH 6 volt JR NIMH Batt in fwd compartment

I added 36 oz of weight.......thats 2lbs 4 oz! I think I may need a little more. I do not have a CG stand so I need to make this a two person job. (it is not easy) But I think I am in the ball park. What do you all think?

I would like to Maiden tomorrow....if the weather is good.

Nose heavy planes fly terrible. Tail heavy planes fly once. This is one area I take a lot of time in getting right before I go out for a maiden. I fall on the conservative side and ensure I know it is nose heavy enough to be absolutely certain it isn't tail heavy. Just my $.02 worth.

Gonna borrow a CG machine capable of a 50lb model or more.....and make sure we are dead nuts on.

Make a vanessa rig and use that to balance it. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/tips...g-rig-how.html

It's easy to make, just a block of wood, a dowel, a plumb bob, a small level, a pulley and some rope. Balances any plane out there as long as you have the room to hang it with. I found that a couple planes I had balanced with the GP balancer were nose heavy after doing them on the rig, and they fly so much better now.

Yes I just had to do the same thing to mine, I thought there had to b a left and right payload release but I think someone just put the plywood rib in the pylon upside down on the righ one or something, I just finished mine and now they work fine!!

I put some on the engine box, then the rest in the cowling.....taxied out to take off and noticed my tailwheel was not letting me turn left, so mission scrubbed as I had some more "crimping" to do, Airplane balanced with 36oz of lead up front.. Waiting for the weather to become maiden friendly (forecast for 25+ knot winds and rain tomorrow)

MAIDEN FLIGHT COMPLETE!!!!!!

Fixed my pull/pull issue on the tailwheel, fueled her and air-ed up the robart tank......short taxi to the end of the rwy.

My G-62 came up to full power smoothly and just a short ground roll and we were airborne rather quickly but "scale" I had about 10 degrees of FLAPS for T/O......short climb out staying in the pattern---did some airwork...airplane stalls very nicely with a slight left wing drop but again it was pretty tame, did some high speed passes, a few rolls, loops, 1/2 cubans.....airplane flies exactly like the real 100% one....very nice Hangar 9!

Slowed the airplane down in the downwind, lowered the gear and went to 1/2 flaps ......then full flaps, did a circle carrier approach, carry just a little power on final then "took the cut from the LSO" and touched down smoothly with a short ground roll.

Airplane flies "light" for a 30lb warbird....I am really loving it!

One proud owner....she is a keeper and a dream bird to have in the Hangar!

You need to contact Ray for accurate information, but it can cost as much as 25%-50% of the engine price.

It's $500.00 to do the intake mods, $200.00 more if you want the Keleo exhaust ring and another $35.00 if you want the drive hub modified for six socket head screws in a DA-100 pattern. If you look at the pic I posted, you can see mine has had this modification done as well. While others may disagree, I am NOT a fan of the single center bolt for the prop. I fought that design on one of my little glow engines, a YS-110 and it was always a pain in the butt. I've never had such problems with my ZDZ's or my DA's....

So you end up with about 2k for a 30cc engine. Does that make any sense?

Nothing about our hobby makes sense. So what's your point? We do this because we want to....
