If I may share with the Brotherhood, a few pictures of my Hellcat at last weekend's Hemet Scale Masters qualifier event. A huge thank you to Ken Young of Ken's Aeroden for these, and many other, really fine photos of the Hellcat. Ken's post regarding the event along with a bunch of his pictures can be found in the Events forum of RC Universe.

BEAUTIFUL WORK CHAD! Here is a copy of my latest F6F report. Other F6F adventures can be experienced on my PF thread that functions mainly to excite interest in modeling/science activities.

(Hackers removed original picture.)
(First replacement picture was also removed.)

Our dandy F6F flies very well in stock condition using Parkzone's 11.1V 1300mAh 15C battery. That battery is too weak to use with the noisy fun provided by the "just fly at any altitude automatic variable pitch prop" but with the efficient stock three bladed prop it works great here in low altitude density air. I did find one problem, however. It turns out that the cowl was moving forward enough that the prop had been rubbing it noticeably during flight. I reasoned that air pressure possibly in diving maneuvers was building up air pressure in the motor area faster than could be sucked through and out the back of the plane. Solution at this point was to open up more area in the back of the plane and slightly restrict the intake air.

Stay tuned for future thrilling episodes to see if we have solved our "moving cowl problem."

Preparing for combat.

Out.

.

I figure I should throw mine into the list and join. A little bit about it. Ziroli Plans, GT-80, Functional scale exhaust, Robart retracts, full cockpit, about 5 years old now, 53 lbs. including the 9 lbs under the motor to balance. A joy to fly.

Very realistic, photos look like the real thing, good job of weathering and functional lubricant and exhaust staining. The only giveaway was the engine access hole for glow driver? on the bottom. Kudos for a job well done, warks62.

No has a Zenoah GT-80 gas twin no glow. I added the hole because on hot summer days in California the engine would start to run hot. Someday I plan on cutting the cowl flaps and making them operational so that I can increase airflow when needed and fill the hole in the cowl.

Thanks

Oh, ok, thanks for clarifying. With operational cowl flaps, it would just make it that much more realistic. It would be truly hard then to differentiate it from the real thing. Good job.

Great Thread #1!

Here is my second attempt to encourage some excitement about an "RAF F6f" and other culturally relevant joys.

The F6f has been accused of just being too ordinary looking. Well, here is a version of this fabulous warplane that is surely anything but "ordinary" (?) looking. Given its great service and champion "Ace maker" record in the defense of Western Civilization values as well as Britain's critical roll in world history's most decisive war, surely it would be a great choice for a RTF model. I would surely buy at least an operational and standby model of this truly great fighter plane!

Here is the copy of my F6f performance report and plea for a marketed Park Flyer version on the Park Flyer thread. This Park Flyer thread also provides a lot of evidence of "hacker attacks" and picture tampering.

Given British heroism in helping save Western Civilization it would really be great if a big Park Flyer RTF version of an RAF F6f were to be marketed.

Today's Combat Air Patrol (CAP) demonstrated that restricting air flow
slightly into the cowl and opening up the exit area a little seemed to have solved the earlier mention cowl problem. I got a little careless on landing and almost set the ship down in a small area covered with some nasty gravel. No problem, I missed the rocks by a few inches this time. Ugly things happened to my P-51 GUNFIGHTER (now affectionately called my "War weary GUNFIGHTER") back when I almost missed the area once. I will be adding more rudder deflection before the next mission in order to help with knife edge flight that wasn't very impressive today.

Gotta get back in the war.

Out.

In response to mad web tv scientist, I am modeling a FAA Hellcat of 800 squadron. The model is from the Ziroli plan with a few modifications to make it a bit more scale. Power is a 3W 75i. It weighs 36 pounds including 5 pound of lead in the nose. I plan to have it ready for Warbirds over Delaware.

gallen, GOOD SHOW, 'OLE CHAP! Us "British agents" gotta stick together - just kidding . Looking forward to hearing about how your special RAF F6f flies as well as seeing how good it looks in all of its glory. My heaviest fighter is my Hurricane weighing between 4 and 5 pounds (almost as heavy as your nose ballast) and can put on a very nice vertical performance show with an "F-15" like take off with convincing victory rolls while flying straight up. My special three bladed props pull around 58 Amps. A neat thing about the Hurricane is that it is very close scale with my Messerschmitts. Anyway, I may eventually be in the market for a larger machine when the first "special sound effects" fighter plane comes on the scene.

Breaking off the attack now and returning to base.

Out.

Here a several photos of my finished Ziroli Hellcat. The final weight is 36 lbs. It is powered by a 3W-75i.

Also, here are some photos taken by Scott McClurg at Warbirds Over Delaware. Note the perfect wheels up landing. The wheels are up due to the incompetent crew's (i.e. myself) failed attempt to pressurize the retract system. The highly skilled pilot was my friend Matt Chapman. The only damage was a slightly scuffed oil cooler vent. I built the vent in the open position as a outlet for the cooling duct. The duct inlet is in the firewall just behind the muffler and cylinder. I don't know that the extra cooling is necessary, but it was easy to incorporate, and the open vent provides a nice skid for wheels up landing!
