Been talking to Callie at Callie Graphics. Ordered me a set of 1/6th scale decals for the new Top Flite Hellcat, ( Lt Alex Vraciu, Gadget scheme #19). Also got her talked into creating a set of nomenclature for this plane. She was reluctant to because she can’t print white on a clear decal for any white lettered nomenclature. I’ve not seen much in white in original photo documentation (Squadron/Signal Books, The F6F Hellcat In Action). But there seems to be several in reproduction paint jobs of ones still flying.
Anyways, she went ahead and produced a set of nomenclature in black lettering we can use to doll up a stock one.

Hi Guys,
I purchased the Top Flight large F6F. On black Friday...I managed to get just $11.00 shipping to Hawaii...it should have been closer to $350.00 or more for shipping and well...bought it. It looks like a RGCF 60 cc gas engine, Sierra retracts (they make a scale set with tail wheel too) and run a 12 channel Rx. Does any one have any experience with this ARF or the RGCF 60cc gas engine...??
Happy Thanks giving...

My Feedback: (13)
Hay TeamMuir1,
I just got my T.F. F6F too. I purchased a EME 60 cc gas engine, w/electric start and Sierra pnuematic gear. Darrall told me his large size tail wheel assy. does really work well for the F6F and told me that Robart's T.F. F6F tail wheel assy. is a drop in fit. So I bought the Robart F6F tail gear from him. I am going to look at repainting my airframe, to the U.S.S. Bunker hill colors (Just like my ESM F6F was painted-be for I lost it).
Sierra gear was a little more expensive then the Robart gear...but it is built for an airframe a good 20 lbs heaver. Nearly twice as robust as needed. This is why I love his gear...you can literally rip it out of the wing...and it will still work.
I also received two scale wheels for the main landing gear. I do need to buy a tail wheel tire for it, but I have all the rest I need, in house.
Soft Landings Always,
Bobby of Maui

Hi Guys,
I ended up going with Sierra main landing gear and a Robart retract tail wheel. I purchased all this from Darrall at Sierra, plus my wheels. They arrived in less then ten day's. I am impressed with the quality and how robust. Sierra's gear is a drop in fit into my wing, perfectly and the holes lined up properly. All I will need to do is feed in the air lines and screw the gear down. Darrall said to me his F6F giant tail wheel assembly does not fit into the Top Flight F6F tail area, and recommended the Robart tail wheel assy.
I did buy and receive a EME 60 cc gas engine, w/electric start. I purchased the electronic box to for operation with your Rx. and it will go into this model.
I was looking at Solo scale props for this airframe, made to fit my EME 60....but at $740.00, I will go with a three bladed wood or carbon prop. If I can find a scale 3 bladed prop to fit my engine...I will buy it. Until then...its going to be two blades. I am going to start with a 24x8 two blade Beechwood prop...and if I can find a nice scale three bladed prop at 22x10x3, or 23x8x3 I will purchase them. I still need to get a proper scale spinner for the engine.
It is the next model up for a build. I need to finish my 35 cc twin engine model first...a full build from AMR out of Canada.

Hay Show871,
Thanks for the information. They do have a 22x10x3 that EME recommends for their 60cc gas engine-I would love to purchase a 23x8x3 but none available. Price is acceptable and eight times cheaper then "Solo" props. I am leaning towards a 23x8 and 24x8 two bladed props to fly the model with the EME 60.

Hi Hellcat lovers. This is Fred Menna #42 from RI. Did a little overhauling on my Byron Hellcat. When I purchased it it was done up in drone colors and painted with automotive enamel. Very nicely done but weighed a ton. I completely stripped the airframe back to bare bones and then cut the whole tail section off from behind the cockpit. I then rebuilt the fuse stab and elevators, fin and rudder using Jerry Bates plans scaled to fit the Byron Hellcat. I not only got a tail that was 3 1/2 lbs lighter than original but also more scale in the process. I then repainted the plane in the Alex Vacierou scheme using house paint latex mixed to federal standard navy colors. Graphics were from Callies Graphics. Enjoy!

Very nice work and Wow 3-1/2 # in weight loss . My Byron flew well at 32# ( Too many paint jobs by previous owners) I'm looking forward as to how the weight loss changes/ improves the flight characteristics . Mine is stripped down now and I'm taking it down to the bare glass .

Just want to give you guys an update on the weight loss. With all the mods and installing a ZDZ 80 the Hellcat now weighs 31 lbs. and is still a little nose heavy RTF. I was able to eliminate 9 lbs of dead weight through these mods. I was originally flying this at 40 lbs. with a GT 80. Needless to say performance was a little anemic.. This should really perform now.
Thanks,
Fred
Thanks,
