Let me clear that up, talking $7.50 per litre nitro in my case so ill pump back what isnt used.
any returning fuel has passed through the sintered bronze fuel clunk in the tank so its clean before going back to tank.
The main reason for filters on each side on my filler pump is to ensure nothing leaves those tiny gears and heads up to my plane.
Apart my Saito FG33R3 with enless issues i haven't had a dead stick in hundreds of flights so im not changing my ways☺

If U run Pressure on the tank all that carbon is going right into the tank and U suck it out I leave the tank full or at least half ful on my Glo motors. Y U Ask? Cause if U drain the tank there is a small bit of fuel U can't get out and it turns rancid and the Nitro and Methonal evaporate and leave the OIL RESIDUE which if U don't close off the tank turns green in the bottom corner of the tank. This is especially if U leave the tank open to the air for any length of time like all winter. JMHO but if what U do Works don't fix what ain't broke.
The mixture screw on the carby has to be closed or it will pull air from that end.
I fill crank cases with 50/50 air tool oil/ rislone engine treatment.
Ive draining tanks this way for 24 years, never had one go green or give me grief but we dont have a none use winter period here so maybe thats it.

Hey mate, I roll the plane side to side while my electric pump grabs every last bit, at the end i lift the tail with it leaning over as well , the capillary action of the sintered bronze filter gets everything.

Thanks for the replies. Yeh, what I have concluded is that I will need to use either a narrower tire or go to 4 1/2" wheels instead of the scale SG 5" wheels. The SG gear is great but if it doesn't fit then I will need to improvise somehow. Was just curious how other people had tried to solve the problem. Or maybe use the stock Robart gear if all else fails but that will be my last option (especially since I've already bought the SG gear and wheels).
Hey HoundDog,
Could you include a pic to show whats up.,
I plan on getting the Sierra Gear for my RTC TF since the gear they produce for the TF P-51 is exceptional and fits well with minimal trimming.
thx
Dave

Gentlemen:
I would like to join the P-47 Brotherhood.
I just finished a recondition on a Hangar 9 P-47 150 size.
It has a G62 with 20x10 4 blade prop.
Electric Robart retracts with 5" scale wheels.
I haven't balanced yet, I sure it will need a ton of weight in the tail.
I won't fly until May. A little frozen here in Wisconsin. Go Pack, Go!

Have you measured the thrust ?

Chris, make sure you test that prop befor you fly, the Belas are very weak. I tried one on my DLE85 22x10x4 recommended for 80cc and when I tried it on my break in frame, a 27lb plane it bearely got off the ground and made the turn back to land. If I would have tried to take off on my 37lb TFGS P-47 it would have ran off the end of the runway not getting airborn. The DLE has 40lb thrust with a 2 blad and the Bela had half that. nice plane!

I have been flying the 19x8 on DLE55 TF P51 for two years now. I have not checked the rpm's. As far as thrust goes, the plane is 22lbs and flies alot faster the guys in my club with Byron P51's with 50's in them
I have been flying the 20x10 on a G62 in aTF51B for one year. This plane is 26lbs, and flies just a little faster then the DLE.
BTW I just balance the P47 . I only had to put 5oz in he tail.

Lifer,
No, I haven't tached it. When we fly 2 blades it xoar 22x8. The range of 4 blade props is small. At a air meet, I saw a flyer using 19X8X4 on his DLE and how well it flew. That convinced me to get one. If you could get a 18x10x4 or a 19x10x4 they could be a better choice, if they were available.

I'll bet it does when they call for a G-26 for the H9 150 Jug. Mine weights 18+ lbs and had 8 1/2 lbs of pull with the G'26, So I bought a 50 CC and it go stright up till it runs out of gas, Afraid to fly it full throttle except on TO there is a thing out there called FLUTTER just waiting to swat a guy out of the sky. M TFGS TarHeel has a G-62 and isn't a really fast on a 20-10 but I'm going to try a 22-10-6 when I get "ROND To iT"
P.S. Not being critical just saying.

U renumber Jim Wainer ... He was my first Instructor ... bought a trainer 60 with K&B 61 and Futaba 6 channel FG radio ...
Most paishunt man I've ever met. in 19 take offs we had 19 dead sticks ...that's when it got off the ground with out dieing.
If U are retired there's really great flying out here. And Good Luck on the maiden ... Hope to see it.

Yes, Jim Wahner and I were friends. He also taught me to fly. He had a stroke in 06' and passed in 12'. No, not retired, I work 50-60 a week in 10-16 hour stretches. If you been around that long, you know Tom Kunath. He will be the one that maidens the plane. Around here we call him the chief test pilot, I build em' he tests them, and then we both fly them. He's a better pilot then I am, I don't have any problems flying the planes, but on a maiden, I only trust Tom. I'll bet our paths have crossed. I have run the Electrons Scale Festival for the past 12 years. We also fly at Warbirds and Classics over the Midwest in Fond du Lac.

I have a Biela 18 x 10 four blade and my radial just dont like it.
It'll pull 5300 rpm on the idle circuit alone but when you go for more throttle it falls over or the engine makes particular sound that I class as imminent failure if you were to continue.
On a 18 x 12 two blade she sounds so much better and pulls 7480 rpm, also the exhaust note changes dramatically for the better.
Somehow the 4 blade steals the radial hunting sound we all love, it must smooth it out with a flywheel effect.

Blair,
13 years ago, I learned how to fly for one reason, to fly scale warbirds. Scale for me ( and me only) means fly them in a scale manner. I will never be able to afford a radial, but I can fly with a scale exhaust and 4 blades (on my Mustangs). If that means sacrificing speed, I can live with that. I have never had the need to fly faster then the plane would in it's scale. I have no problem with the "speed" warbird guys, that's their gig. Biela is just a means to an end. They are alot better than Zinger 4 blades I can tell you that. If someone comes out with a better 4 blade.............I am there!
