It's like watching NASCAR.
OK, I'll find the rudder part of the plans and lay them on the glass. Gonna take a while, though. I got a lot of projects "in process" (i.e. unfinished)
mt[/QUOTE]
I have often thought exactly the same thing about NASCAR, but didn't dare say it.....
Glad to hear your gonna get started on the Robart model, that should be a real beauty!
Having the same problem with unfinished projects, and time. According to the calender, winter is supposed to be winding down?? That means two things, flying season is almost here, and there's going to be 101 other things to do
Just brought the plane back from the shop where I finished the last of the seams. Have been sanding it down the past few days, and as you might have guessed, there is still a bit of work in terms of external repairs, before it moves into prep for paint. Looking at the calendar, and all the other projects that I haven't touched this winter has me at a crossroads....p-38, or everything else

Went to the WRAM show today, good show, good people. Was able to stock up on shop supplies, and some odds and ends. Wasn't there to buy any planes, as I don't need any more projects, and then the manager throws out a low ball number on a 90" Nitroplanes ARF as I was looking at....I resisted and walked away
Finished shopping, walked out to my car, and was backing out, and I just couldn't do it....now I have another project. Is there a cure for this illness???
Mocking up gear to see if I have something to give it the "P-38 stance", and it really needs plug in wings.
Its a little big for the area we fly at right by work, but its so light, and should land so slow.....who knows, maybe a new "take everytime" plane in the making

No nothing in the way of P-38 other than a few different foamies.
Was really surprised to see one vendor with several of the old Nitroplanes models, including the 90" Lightning. Asked him where they got them, and he just said they had a warehouse full. Not sure exactly what that means, but he didn't have a business card, or number to share. At the prices they were selling for, must be at distributor level.

Cool! That's the same scheme I picked up. I'm hoping to start mine by April if I can get my P-40 done in time. I haven't had time to do much digging on it yet to see what gear most people used, if you find something that works let me know! I bought a pair of RCG 20 gassers that I'm hoping to use on mine.

Almost forgot to mention, had a conversation with the folks that manufacture Falcon props at WRAM. To manufacture 3 blade counter rotating props in carbon would be cost prohibitive. To do them in wood is doable, but the min order is 10 pieces, that's 10 standard rotation (unless a stock size), and 10 CCW, or put another way, pushing a couple grand for props.............
In the mean time, I finally choose motors for the YA38. Going with a pair of Scorpion 5030 F3A motors, designed to spin big props on 10S. Matching F3A 20x13x 3 blade carbon props should look right at home, and provide plenty of motivation. Should provide spirited scale like performance, with good efficiency for longer flight times. Easy enough to bump up to 12S, and/or higher pitch two blade props for some speed runs

I'm not going that far, if I can get it to sit right on the ramp with retracts, do the plug in wing mod, and add some color, I'll be happy. Will be electric powered with Scorpion 4025-12 440KV on 6S. Plane is so light, hoping they will spin the APC 15x13x3 props around 9500RPM at speed
The dark color is the way to go in IMHO, and I'm thinking strips, yellow nose on the cowls, little color on the tail, a little silver up front, with a girl wrapped in a towel on the nose....sound familiar? Come on, the world can always use one more California Cutie
Going to give Callie Graphics a try as well, can't beat the prices, and she is receiving a lot of praise from her customers.

You just made my day!
A few people have been looking for a good source of 3 blade CCW props
Very nice plane!
If you don't mind me asking, what is your ready to fly weight? What batteries are you running, and what are you pulling for power WOT straight and level?
Thanks
Mike

It is around 36 lbs and has the Thunder Power 65c 5000 mah packs.
Amp draw is around 90-95 I'm guessing. My buddy has a YA P-47 with the same set up but with a 2 blade and pulls 86 wot on the ground.
I haven't flown it yet, but don't think I'll be flying it much wide open though. It puts out around 50 lbs of thrust.
I also had cnc turbine wheels and radiators made for it. I also have guns made for it, but not a pic of them yet.
I have around 250 hrs in it and its finally almost done.
Take care,
Travis

Very nice!
You certainly have a great field to fly it. Will you be bringing it to Joe Nall this year?
BTW, you are number 41, welcome to the "brotherhood".

Is that the stock YA cockpit? What pilot did you use?
Would you mind posting a couple pix of your battery install?
Also, a sanity check for all the guys with the Yellow model; on the booms, are the battery doors located on just the left side of each boom, or both sides?
Thanks
Thanks

I built battery trays, one in front of the instrument panel that holds 2 of the packs, and the other 2 go inside the wing in front of the spar.
Yes, that is also correct on the doors on the booms.

Please count me in also. I don't have a 38 right now but i have built a total of seven of the yellow aircraft kits and i sold the last one to a good friend from Horizon Hobby and i'm hoping he will be bringing it to Joe Nall this year. It will be it's third year there, and it is a six year old model which is pretty good for a Lightning.
I really do miss it!!! Here are a few pictures of it. edf nut i hope to see your's flying this year as i am thinking of doing another one with electric motors this time.
