Something to add on the UMS 7-160 radial. The three blade is a Biela semi scale 26x14 and it turns 5000rpm. The temperature in Monroe was 91 degrees and the engine temps after a 10 min flight ran 125-134 degree depending on which cylinders I shot....very cool engine

I currently have Sierra Retracts in mine. They are the best choice in my opinion. The stock retract mounting is not good because they are too far back and promote nose-overs. I started with Robart gear in the stock mounts, and was not happy with it. I modified the retract mounts a bunch, and made it so the wheels retract up into the fuse instead of the wing. I put in a set of Century Jet gear made for the Anderson LA-7. I wasn't happy with those, so finally went to Sierra (also made for the Anderson LA-7). I'll be trying them out this spring, but I'm sure they'll work well as they always do. This photo gives you an idea of how I modified the gear mounts.

To answer your question about pilot figures, nobody really makes a good 1/4 scale warbird figure. Aces of Iron makes a 1/4 scale bust that is decent. I think you'd have to use the US pilot bust, and paint it to look Russian. I'm currently building a 1:3.75 scale Ki-61, and I'll use an Aces of Iron bust but I'll make my own lower body. If you only need a bust I think the Aces of Iron would look better than the 15" figure from Warbird Pilots.

Is that the sierra electric retract or air?looks good but the strut look short. It's away from original mounting. Does not hit your proppeler to the ground then? Warbird pilots make 1:3 scale which is 22" tall but im not sure if it will fit. 15" to 22" is big a different.

I always use Air. Those are quite large retracts, you need the power of Air.
15" x 4 = 60" a bit short for a normal WW2 pilot. 22" x 4 = 88" That's too tall. 1/4 scale pilot would be 17-18" tall.
Warbird pilots markets the 15" as suitable for 1/4 scale, but the head and shoulders are a bit small.

That’s a sore spot with me vickyz....when I rebuilt my gear rails I designed them for the Robart HD gear then found out they weren’t so HD. So, I called Darrell and he had gear that would fit the rails same as the Robart’s and they are great. The sore part was finding out, in my conversation with Darrell, that he builds the Anderson gear which would have been perfect. Next time I do something like I did with this plane I’m calling Darrell first!!

Im little confuse. What's actually makes the plane preventing nose over if I install the retract near to the fuselage. I talked to one of the guy using the electron retract on the original cy model gear mounting location and he has no issue on it.
I'm in the learning process here and trying to understand

Moving the retracts towards the fuse is just for scale affect. The nose over problem is caused by the position of the stock rails too far back, and you can't angle the gear enough to get them in front of the leading edge of the wing were they should be. Since I had to totally change the gear mounts to accept the Sierra gear, I decided to make it look more scale at the same time.
If you keep the plane really light, as in stock, the problem isn't as pronounced because there is less weight to land, less pressure on the wheels etc. I scaled mine out quite a bit with a full cockpit, retractable tailwheel, and other details that added weight.

I have the 160 in mine but if the 180 had been available I would have used it instead because of the easy fit. The 160 is tight with 1/2” space between the cowl and pushrod adjusters. As for power, the 160 flys my 44 pound La-7 at half throttle with ease and swings a 26x14 3 blade Biela scale prop hope this helps
