I contemplated using a G62 in mine and even mounted the engine but decided to swap it for an RCGF 70 twin . Having flown several warbirds with a G62 I see no reason you shouldn't use one if you have one . G62 is a great engine for a warbird. Put a T6 prop on it and she will be fast .

Hay Chris,
I liked what you did with your cowl laps. You are using a FG and I ended up buying a EME 60, w/electric start for mine. I also picked up a set of Sierra gear, with a retract tail wheel assy. too. You do clean work and keep it simple.

I need to visit you guys and see the flying field, isn’t it windy most of the time on the islands for flying scale models? My last visits to Kauai made me think gliders were a better choice! Lol
You will love the Hellcat! Handles the winds very well.

Yes the trade winds do kick in between 8:30 am to 10:00 am almost each day. Most the guys here fly Tue., Wed. and Sat.-Sun. It all depends on the winds. I live 30 miles away, so I get up at 5:30 am, check the Mari RC Modelers web sight, and check the wind. If the winds are below 5 kts, I load up and head to the flying field. It takes me 45 minutes to get there and some times...the wind will stay dead calm all day. You can count on a half dozen day's like that here. There are several really good places to fly gliders here. One is up on the North side of Volcano and several places where power gliders will have cliff up drafts that never seem to quite.
I'm happy the model handles the winds...and I am currently flying an ESM Skyraider and 40cc powered Ultra Stick. They handle the winds ok and the Ultra Stick is really fun to fly.

Had a tough day with the Hellcat today!
We had a 90 degree crosswind on the runway as I started to take off. Just as I was adding power to get going after the initial roll it veered to the right, with the wind, unexpectedly. I cut power, held full left rudder, but it wasn’t enough and the momentum took over. We have a fence along the side of the runway and of coarse I put the wing into a post.
I cut power to avoid adding more energy to an already predictably bad situation but now I’m thinking maybe I should have added power and just had a sketchy take off.
Just an off day...

Same can happen to any of us. I had a ESM Hurricane. It was always a PITA to land. I was flying when the cross wind got worse. It had a high wing loading. Touched down on the mains, just a small bounce, then with the tail still up, started going right with the wind. I put in full left rudder, was not enough. Hit a cyclone fence, cartwheeled down the fence and totally destroyed the plane. The good part was all the hardware survived to be used in another plane.

If you already have the 61 then fine go with that but honestly the DLE 55RA has better performance. I’ve had both and the 61 is better suited to torque applications. The 55RA has more high RPM output and is a great match with a Xoar 22x10 prop. I flew both in my TF GS Corsair and I would go back to the 55RA immediately. In fact I have two 61’s, one is new, I’ll sell it to you if you’re set on that engine!
I have the Jtec compact Pitts muffler for TF models on my 61. I highly recommend cross drilling the socket cap screws for safety wire. Use thread lock, blue, and then safety wire the bolts correctly. I never have them come loose this way. Also another tip I do is to hone the head exhaust port face flat and the mating surface of the muffler flat before you put it together. Less chance of leaks this way and less likely to vibrate loose too.

Thanks for the info. I did buy the 61 already. I was thinking 23 X 8 for a 2 blade and not sure what prop to get for a 3 blade. I want a 3 blade painted black and yellow but 3 blade prop choices seem so limited. I was thinking 8 pitch instead of 10 because on this model, vertical performance is more important to me than speed. With that said I welcome the advice of those who have flown both props..3 blades too!
