TopRCModel FW-190

Be careful to do your flap research. If you take your flap and cut out the top of the flap between the ribs you will have a much more scale looking flap for this plane. Oh, and the ends will be open.

As i plan to repaint my Toprc Fw190.
I was wondering if anyone can recommend a company who specialise in replacement decals to suit this plane??

Finally, I got the retracts working.
I contacted the supplier of the retracts in China.
He send me a new programming manual.

CG Good?
Question on actual flying with the book CG of 168mm from root where it attaches to the fuselage.
Are you guys flying with that exact number or have you adjusted front or back from that? I have mine on Xicoy scales and am within 8oz tail heavy on that CG.
Thank you
Scott

I balanced mine at 166mm. Plane was a little nose heavy (would tilt slowly to the nose). Flew as good as any fighter I've ever flown. Total plane weight was 35lbs 4oz. Would float in for landing with full flaps set to the same setting as the full scale. Don't worry about weight on this plane...it can handle it. I wouldn't do near tail heavy as this plane is a handful landing in a cross wind because it has a tendency to float.

Thanks Tevan.
I’ll take that into account.
I can slide the batteries forward another inch and make it nose heavy as well since they are right on the cg.
mare you setting up your flaps in mm or degrees?

If I remember correctly, full flaps is right around 60 degrees on the full scale. I set mine at 58 degrees. Takeoff flaps were set at 13 degrees on the full scale. 50 degrees works very well on my landings. If I were to make any changes it would be to add more flap. Check post #242.

Thanks for the info Tevan,
Sparky, I already had glued my horns in last year before I found this thread where you mentioned it.
For me moving the battery pack 1 inch drastically changes the CG.
but then my battery pack is 14,000Mah 12S (my fuel) weighing 8lbs !!!
Thanks
Scott

Spent some time working on the main gear install. First, I had to trim off the extra material at the retract mount. Rail spacing was fine but it sat to low in the wing causing interference between the retract and upper wing.
Trial fitted two pieces of 1/8" plywood on top of the rails to help this issue. Layed the retract back down and found that the wheel and strut would be to low in the wheel well. I installed two 1/8 plywood shims ...1/4".... on both upper
part of the mounting rails. With this the wheel and strut sat perfectly in the wheel well and the strut was parallel to the wing surface. Then loaded up the rail mount with West System thickened epoxy before laying down the
plywood piece on top

Great thread guys, I’ve been lurking since last year and I’m building one of these as well. Sanded the paint off and going back on w the same scheme but more scale and paint from Warbird Colors. Have the Sierra Retracts and I’m hoping to go w the Moki Radial or a Valach twin.
Rev - sent you message as I’m looking to purchase the machine guns, engine fan, and possibly a few other things if you’re making them.
Those of you that are flying w the Saito 90, are you honestly happy with the performance or are you wishing there was a little more ‘ooomph’ under the hood?
i’ll post pics of the plane when I’m to the point of installing the radio gear.

Big hole in firewall
2 airboxes with 2" hoses
And working vents
Servo operated
Saito FG 90 is a nice choice for the FW 190, but air flow is a concern. The enclosed cowl of the FW 190 traps a lot of hot air. I opened the cowls flaps on my Zero and Corsair and it really helped engine cooling.
SOOOOO...Along with baffles, and a spinner fan I added some extra air flow through the firewall, down some 2 hoses, and out the scale FW 190 fuselage baffles.
I have no idea if this will work. Fun project. Maybe I got nervous with hot summer flying ahead of us...or it was a result of "shelter in place" and too much time on my hands.
