RE: FiberClassics P-51 now Comp-ARF P-51
Started painting the roundels on the fuselage and the wings.
The method I will use is to paint my markings first. After they are done, they will be masked off, when I apply the green and grey. This method worked well when I did my Corsair.
Roundels are always fun to do[:@], and will post my progress as I go.
Insignia red has been applied.

Congrats on the maiden Alan
Started on the making of the roundels.
I first made some wooden blocks with a balsa base. There is a hole in the block for my compass point. These are taped on to the area to be painted. These will remain in location until the roundels are complete.
Next, using my compass, I make the first circle. This is the line that I will use to mask the entire red section. I will post some pics just before I apply the white.

Masked off the roundels, 6 in total as well as the fin.
Turned out not to bad, white is always a fun colour. The wood will remain in location until the roundels are done.

Looks good Alan. It looked as though she wanted to take of pretty quick. Once again congrats
Still plugging away with the roundel painting. Did have a few issues with the blue over the white. So a little sanding and repainting is worth the effort.
I still need to do the yellow around the fuselage roundel. Before my final paint colours I will mask off the roundels complete, and the fin, which will give me the edge needed were it meets the green and grey paint.

Painted up the leading edge of the wings with the yellow. Once again this area will be completely masked prior to applying the camouflage colours.

Masked and painted the yellow outline colour on the fuselage roundel.
Like the remainder of my markings, these will all be masked before the final paint colour, and will have the sharpe outside edge.

Think I may have to look into getting a pilot as well. Thanks for posting those links.
Masked off the fuselage, and painted the sky code (RAF) colour.
The call letters will be masked before final painting, as well as the vertical band in front of the tail section will be masked for the proper size.
When everything is masked, a light wet sanding of the paint will ensure a smooth transition, and a good clean finish.

For the comp arf Mustang which I think is 1/4 scale the1/4 scale pilot on the www.fighteraces .co.uk web site that is new, should fit nicely, but not 100 % sure. The 1/6 scale pilot would fit but it may seem a bit small. And for the 1/5 scale Mustang the 1/6 scale pilot fits very well.

The issue is that Comp-Arf is not 1/4 scale is about 1/4.4 I guess. Will the 1/4 scale pilot be to big for the plane.??? or the 1/5 to small..??
Could anyone give some advice... I don't want to buy the wrong Size. Maybe a bigger pilot looks better than a small one... heheh..
Thanks,
Roger

It seems like most of us expect to see a pilot that is larger than is scale. The FiberClassics Mustang's fuselage scale is indeed 4.4:1 (4.35 based on my database).
Here's a picture from my files that shows clearly what a correctly sized pilot without helmet should look like (modern hard helmets make a pilot's head look much larger).
But in the end, it's a matter of personal opinion. And what's available.

I have an Ace of Iron 1/4 pilot in my top/Flite. The T/F is not quite 1/5 scale. He looks about right in the cockpit. I've seen them with a 1/5 pilot and he looks lost in it.
Also maybe one companies 1/4 scale is different than anothers. Dunno.
This is the best pic I could find without digging thru them all.
Hope this helps.

I bought this thing from Toys R Us, It too was a bit small, but you better leave him on the ground for flight, like carrying a hunk of lead in the seat. I too would like to find the right size pilot that doesn't look like a "Saucer Eyed Dolly" as Dave Platt calls them.

The pilots from www.fighteraces.co.uk & www.scaleaircrewsupplies.co.uk with equipment are vary light & will not add a lot of weight. I will post a picture of one of my pilots .

That looks awsome Edwin. Love the small details.
Well I put a coat of yellow on the widscreen and top of the cowl. I am heading out of town for a week, so this will allow it plenty of time to cure. I will go over the yellow with some wet sandpaper to smooth it out, and give it another light coat, as well as the wing leading edge. This will give me the depth of yellow that I am looking for.
