Did not think he would have a problem. This is all about supporting the hobby, learning from each other, discovering new ways to do some things, and most important.......................having fun. Its only an airplane thread, not life and death.

Nice job on the cooling doors. I took the easy way out, made them in the closed, flushed position. I was thinking that painting my markings would have been a nightmare with those doors in the open position.

Thanks for the comp's, guys
Had not realy thought about the paint problem, so will just have to see when I get there, not sure how hot the air coming out is, so will have to paint inside olive drab or black and fudge the finish paint???
Any One looking for a full body pilot found a web site for one looks like he would fit our size birds well, anyway try www.HistoricAviation.com

Don't you guys have plastic down under? I applaud your efforts to make your control surface hinging/construction look more scale-like but ply wouldn't be my first choice. I've used .020 Mylar or similar plastic for this purpose. It's requires no filling or sanding, very little putty to hide the edge and is as scale in appearance as one could ask for.
I've attached a scale flap hinge drawing in case you missed it on the other thread.
Good luck!

so quite a lot of progress on the 47 since I last posted. Most of the work has been centered around gear doors and getting the canopy sorted out.
Will post a few words and pics as I go.
cheers and it really is good to be back amongs t me mates.

Well just trying to figure out where I left off, forgive me if I'm out of sequence a bit!
Here we go, back into it! I'm going to finish this build yet and here where it all began too!
Some pics of progress, will let the pics tell the story.
a shot of the retract leg, this was of the old Robart unit which has been replaced by oil damped oleos by Custom Retracts here in Australia.
Pics of the wingtip nav lights and the clear covers. Tiketec came over and showed / helped me to do these a couple of months back.
Some pics with the nav lights on and the landing light too. Note the 3 ident lights as well. These will have a coloured lens / bezel over the top of them.
cheers

RE: TF GS P47 Build - yeah another bloody one!!
couple more of canopy work, slow labourious job this task.
Some of retracts and gear doors.
You can see the outer portion of the gear bay getting a layer of 6oz cloth to reinforce it.
Also shown is the marking out for the gear doors. Man gear doors are fiddly but satisfiying. I have never done them before so faily pleased with results but could have done it better.
One pic of the gear door shows a paino style hinge. Whaile this looks very neat it did not allow the door to "twist" as the leg deployed. The rake angles on the bird make the leg raote a bit as it extends, so had to use a plastic offset hinge which is working quite nicely.
Onto the next sequence of pics...

Various shots of the gear door trailing links that pull the door closed with the leg. These literally took hours of fiddling to get right.
Sequence of shots showing the gear door being pulled closed by the oleo leg during retraction.

next lot ...
pic of the new spinner for the 96" span HD Mk VIII Spitfire pateiently waiting
You can see in one of the pics the drawing I did to work out the geometry for the inner gear doors and the air rams to drive them. This is a technique I found in a UK magazine by renowned UK builder / modeller Phil clarke.
Fabricating then gear doors, these are made from about 4 layers of 6oz cloth that were laid up some time back over the bottom section of the wing before the wells were cut out. They will be reinforced with balsa and 2.4oz glass cloth.
Later pics will show the reinforcement.
