i have a question, i have strip planked my fuse, mainly because i sheeted the stab and rudder and they look like doodoo. any ways my question is do i strip plank over the wing saddles, or do i just use filler to true it up with the planking, i ask because they almost are flush with each other without planking over them. Thanks for any response.

Dino

Don't know much about planking, but I made little temps and glued them in then used blue foam sanded to the temp's, and it seamed to have workrd well as I remember I think pete fillets about page 70+ and mine about 100 + you will just have to search but good info is in there.

Hope tis helps

ORIGINAL: mirce
... G-45 is for sure inaff for this plane. It give realistic power for model this size and weight.
Mirce
...actually not. The low cruise speed at the airshows is below or at 200 knots. About 230mph or about 370km/h...this speed would be 82mph or 131km/h scale realistic.

The combat speed of the Jug of 350mph or 648km/h would be scale speed (1/6) 230km/h!

So the G45 is not even close to low cruising speed.

[link=http://www.scaleaero.com/maneuver_realism_speed.htm]CLICK HERE FOR THE LINK[/link] and read this article about realism and scale flying.

When you see Dino at TopGun flying and he opens his Moki 250 there you see close to scale/combat speed, for that he gets points too.

Anyhow, sorry to bust your bubble...

Happy landings

G-Pete, I am not wrighting about speed, I just tell that G 45 have inaf power for this model. Realisam, when this our Top Flite's Jug is in the air is realy high...
I tell just my opinion and something what I have opportunity to try and see...

Dino's model on last year Top Gun fly realy scale, but for me more scale is flying Brian O'Meara's Sea Fury... And what are you think about this year flying of Andreas Gietz's Corser from Composite ARF. That airplane have also Moki 250, and what a sound.... Ofcourse speed is higher than on my Thunderbolt, but model is bigger also...

All the best from Novi Sad

I need help. I have been follwing this thread since the biginning. I am having trouble forming the clear wing tip covers for the lights.

I tried it on the straight balsa, but that left wood grain in the acrilic. Then I tried to monokote that wouldn't take the heat. Then I tried glassing the wing tips, tried that tonight. Still no luck.[]

I've been working on the cockpit, built it myself. what a lesson this was, lot of work.

I've heard most guys used cheap colored toothbrushes and sand to shape. Then polish them and glue them in place. I'm not doing the lights on my bird this time around.

I can help you out the clear lenses you get at [link=http://www.aerotechmodels.com/]http://www.aerotechmodels.com/[/link]. I talked to the guys up there yesterday and they will sell them for $5 a pair. There is a hook - their policy is a $10 shipping fee. So these babies cost you $15 shipped. I ordered last year the lenses from them and there are excellent.
It's worth it, may you buy 2 pair and keep or sell one pair...

hope this helps

The easiest way to do the nav lights was the way i showed pete to do them, that is glass and prime the wing so you have a nice smooth surface, and the with the help of a modeling buddy, cut a 1/2ft x 1/2ft of ploycarb or whatever your going to mold them with and heat with a hairdryer/paint stripper gun etc..

Once the plastic becomes very soft, this is were your mate comes in handy because one can support the wing so it doesn't move while the other pull the plastic over the correct location. Pretty simple operation really, and petes came out pretty good.

If you can't be bothered doing that, then the Aerotech sound like a good option too.

Thanks

Thanks Abunch. Last night I heated up the .040 poly carb sheet prior to forming it around the wing tip, that worked better. I am trimming the it today and I'll see what it looks like. I'll post a pic if it comes out looking right.

Ok here is the wing tip lights. It took several tries before I got the poly to for with out distorting it.

Next I move on to the formation lights and landing lights.

Thanks.

LED's, I plan on putting a small battery pack in the wing, or use the flight pack. LED's use so little power.

Nice work on the wing tip lights. I've made a couple plugs to vacuuform mine but have not done it yet. Did you just heat your plastic and pull it over the wing tip?
