Dave Platt Models has a partial kit for an 80". The kit includes plans and Fiberglass parts, it is up to you to provide wood parts. There also was one available from Aeroloft in fiberglass and foam, I don't know if it is still available.

HDM,
I hope you know that the P-51-B is identical to a P-51-C and the only varient was the introduction of the Packard built Merlin to replace the Allison engine. The plants where Mustangs where built Inglewood Ca.= B and Dallas Tx.= C for a total of 2,828 a/c. Of that 2,100 where built with the Merlin.

If you don't want exact scale, Top Flite put out a B version of both sizes of their mustang several years ago. They turn up occasionally on here or Ebay for sale.
Also, American Eagle has one, but I don't know how scale it is. http://www.flyrcmodels.com/

The Aeroloft 80 inch wingspan kit would strike me as the best option - fairly scale outline - sensibly priced - and according to the website http://aeroloft.com/P-51B.htm#contents still available in deluxe or semi kit form.
Also developed form a proven design - was it Gene Barton?
Worth a look.
What a shame there isn't a larger P-51B on the market 90-105 inch wingspan size - its seems to be a gaping hole in the market - anyone at Yellow etc listening???????
Best regards from little ol England

Hey Jason, are you really from Duxford?
Great Museum you have there...and spectacular air shows! Of course, that little University town nearby has some decent pubs also!

RE: Any P-51 C model Kits
The A models and the A-36 version both had Allison engines. It was the British (who the airplane was built for anyway) that came up with putting a Merlin engine in. North American tried it also, came up with a cleaner installation then the British did and the B model was born. The rest is another chapter in history...

High P-51B,
Yes I really do live in Duxford - about 2 minutes walk from the museum - during the summer life is one big airshow - especially as we can now fly models from the runway in the evenings!
And we have our very own P-51B Princess Elizabeth of the Fighter Collection almost ready to take to the skies after some substantial re-working.
and yes one or two decent pubs too!
Very best regards
Jason

Hi Jason:
Yes but I think there are enough P-51 kits out there to make a killing on them. Yellows new warbird is going to be a 100" Corsair,,,,, about a year out,,,, I will get one of those for sure.
Take care, Dave

RE: Any P-51 C model Kits
There are a number of large 90-105 inch wingspan P-51 D kits on the market but no large P-51 B kits - very time consuming to accurately convert a D to a B as the front of the wing where it fitted the fuselage is quite different.
Just seems a shame no-one does them as the market is afloat with D's - B's very rare indeed.
As for the Yellow Corsair can't wait - if its as good as the recent P-40 and F-15 its going to be worth waiting for.
Just Imagine a Yellow 100 inch P-51 B!!
Best regards
Jason

RE: Any P-51 C model Kits
Having read all threads here is the differance between B, C Mustangs one thread was half right, Mr. B had an allison not the R.R. merlin & Mr. C sported the "Merlin" as well as the dorsal fin in front of the vertical stab like the D-10 block Mustangs early "D" 's from D-5 block had the bubble canopy but no dorsal fin, and just to throgh alittle more on ya the only diff on late D's & K's is the prop, D hamilton standard K had a areoproducts prop.

RE: Any P-51 C model Kits
I must disagree, both the B and C had the Merlin and were, essentially, identical airframes. The B was built in Inglewood while the C was built in Dallas, hence the different letter designations. I don't believe any of the high back Mustangs were built with the dorsal fin, that being a field modification and carried by both B and C versions.

Sorry Friend, but you are wrong the "C" model also sported the dorsal fin in front of vertical stab along with the R.R. Merlin, "B"'s had no dorsal fin and were fitted with Allison engines need anymore "TECH" on Mustangs let me know.

RE: Any P-51 C model Kits
The P51A had an Allison engine that worked fine at low altitude but didn't have a double stage blower to be effective at higher atitudes. This was part of the reason why the British weren't terribly impressed with it. The P51B was the first production Mustang (by the way, it was the Brits also came up with the name "Mustang" ) that used the Merlin engine, first the Rolls Royce version and later a licensed version built in the US by Packard. The P51C was identical to the B model except for the fact that it was built in a different North American factory. They were built concurrently during the war. The P51Bs and Cs flown by the Brits quite often had the birdcage canopy replaced by the Malcohm hood which was bubbled out like the Spitfire's. The P51D as everyone knows had the full teardrop shaped canopy with the rear turtledeck cut down to improve visibilty. Stability was lost without the turtledeck which is why the dorsal fin had to be added to the D model. Towards the end of the war a lightweight model was produced called the P51H but from what I have read was quite squirrelly to fly.
Cheers!

51-D GUY, this is easily resolved. Simply do a Google search for P-51B or C, or even just simply "Mustang", and you will find a plethora of information about the Mustang right here on the web. I stand by my previous statements concerning the Mustang.
