Default another fw190a8 outing

just thought i would share pics of my fw190. first time out for her this year. i only put 3 flights on her last year and they were all at the bomber field event. some minor changes, i added a little right hand thrust which greatly decreaed the amount of rudder required on take off, tracked down a very small air leak on the gear, and added a half pound of nose weight. she is a stable predictable flier with the exception of i feel i am a little tail heavy still. the elevator is more sensitive than i prefer and very little input is required and i feel a heavy movement would result in a snap. so more will be added. i am getting her ready for the rally of the giants in edinburg in a few weeks. maybe i will see some of you there. take care, barry

Barry, that's a beautiful airplane. The A8 is my favorite version. Was it built from a kit or from plans?

this is an airworld kit from germany. she is powered with a 3w 100. i picked the kit up 2 years ago at the bomber event and finished her for last years bomber event. the paint and detail work was done by dan gill, that dude is a master with an airbrush, and all the rigging etc was done by me. she helped me win best of show at bomber last fall. i plan on making a lot of big bird events here in texas and in lousiana this year with her. take care, barry

Really nice plane!

I watched you fly it at Bomber last year.

Mine's a Meister with a BME 61. Most docile warbird I've ever landed, but flies like a missile at full throttle.

What kind of fan is behind (attached to?) your spinner?

mt, your fw is a looker for sure. when you saw mine fly at bomber you either saw the test flight on thursday or one of the two other flights on friday or saturday. i was still tinkering with the cg and was babying her around. mine also flies very solid with the exception of a sensitive elevator. moving the cg up should be a cure. as for the spinner, i dont know where it comes from. the gentleman i purchased the kit from had already acquired it and tossed out any info it may have come with. however, it is all alluminum, including the fan, and it was prebalanced. no heating problems here. good luck and lets hook up at bomber next year and wear those mustangs down a little. take care, barry

Yeah, "tinkering with the CG" eventually involved putting 3 lbs of lead in the nose for mine. Shoulda known better than to invest in such a lightweight engine. But I've developed a real affection for the BME 61, so no way I'm gonna change it out now.
