The Gathering Of Corsairs
Thank you very much Chad.
I have not seen those pictures before.
I plan to use Nelson System paints, anyone have a idea about that exact color of green?
I think I could get close, but I want to better than that....

Great high quality pics Chad !
Daven,
I'm gonna' try and copy that scheme also, onto my NWHT 85" Corsair. I really like that color combination. I would like information on that color of green too.
I have a few more pictures of that Corsair on my home 'puter. I'll add them here soon.

The Gathering Of Corsairs
You think you had it good? First I drove 15 hours each way to go. Got there friday morning and watched the B-17 and all the others land. Even managed to be in the prop wash of most of those warbirds. Then at night I went to the Symposium, and got 30 or so Corsair pilots signatures. I saw Jimmy Franklin fly that Waco for his first time three years ago at Sussex. Then on Sunday I went to the National aerospace museum in Ohio. If you look at the official airshow poster , the one with 15 or so corsairs flying together on it, my uncle is the artist. Dave Lord. I got back at 3 in the morning, just to get up at 6 to go to school. Stupid school.

Seattle Museum of Flight Corsair
Don: The Corsair in the Seattle Museum is really a beautiful airplane. They had it on display up at Paine Field in Everett right after they recovered it from Lake Washington. When I first saw it one wing was pretty badly damaged from the water landing and as you can imagine 20 years in the lake didn't help either. The guys that were working on it were really excited about what they had recovered and they were determined to make it fly again. From then to what it looks like now is a real tribute to what quality restoration is all about. This plane is incredible. It's complete down to ammunition for the wing guns. Paint and markings are absolutely perfect. It's really too bad they don't fly this plane. I don't know of any aircraft in this museum that do fly.
The Spitfire that is parked right next to the Corsair came from the Champlin collection I think and I'm sure it's flying days are over too. There are many who feel that these aircraft are all to valuable to risk in flight and though I understand their point allowing people to see them flying is a special treat that I hope never ceases. The Seattle Corsair is a beauty and I have many pictures of it if anyone needs them.

The Gathering Of Corsairs
Jack, the Spit at the MOF is the one that used to be owned by Cliff Robertson. I don't remember the name of the gentleman who purchased it and then donated it to the museum. Word is that it has some corrosion and that is why they decided to ground the bird permanently. The Champlin Spit is still here in Mesa and their is speculation that it will be sold. If you think the Corsair in the museum is nice wait until you get a look at the F2G Super Corsair that is coming with the Champlin collection. Simply awesome!
Dago, I had the sad misfortune of watching the Planes of Fame racing Corsair scatter itself all over the Arizona desert a few years back. The pilot got out of it via parachute but it was the most suspenseful 30 seconds of my life. You could here the entire crowd breathe a sigh of relief when his chute opened.

RIP Joe Tobul
Just thought I would let you all know that Joe Tobul was killed this weekend when his corsair crashed while performing at an airshow in Columbia SC. It was reported that the corsair was trailing smoke as it passed over the airport and crashed into a nearby subdivision. unfortunately Joe was killed in the crash but thankfully no one on the ground was hurt.

I was able to see Joe fly his beautiful corsair on Saturday at the
Celebrate freedom festival. The fly-in was a wonderful gathering
of warbirds and bombers. Thank you to the pilots that put on
such a great show!
Please join with me and pray for his family.
Thank you,
