Well, missing up to date posts in this thread. Dave you around? I have yet another addition to the long line of 1/8 Corsair goodies! 170 gal drop tanks, yea the big ones! They are about 16 1/2" long and about 3 1/2" wide, no internal structure is used so they are light. Just 1/4 ounce of lead will be used in the nose so they fall right. Hope to test them this weekend, we'll see how they do.

Hi Dion, THAT LOOKS real nice too dude.I`m slowly getting some wind back, in the sails again. In the new year I`ll get a little more serious in here again. In the mean time don`t forgat the movies .I LIKE`EM !!!HERE`S a few F4U-1D shots for ya. WET PYLONS,that could carry bombs,or drop tanks . 1 pic with pylon cover, and 1 without.Really shows the versatility of this machine. Think i have pics showing the drop tank in the center with the bombs on the pylons ,but might be in my Crapped out computer.Any one wanting to put intresting corsair stuff in here,SHOULD!!

Interesting drop tank, I even saw one with no seams. Almost looks like a P-38 tank, the bomb is a practice 1,000lb dummy. I modeled the drop tank in the picture below, Rocketman612 (Pete) will have them mounted on his Corsair this Friday, might even make a trip to the field to test them. More video is on the way!

THOSE above pics, and this one, is from factory archives.I don`t know, but maybe they WERE testing for fit ,of a P-38 for interchanging.Check out the tires.NO tread and a NEW plane.Shows the TOE-OUT real good as well as,camber Would work on the models real good too for "planting" the rubber down together, if a wing tip is a bit high,as soon as 1 tire hit s the ground it`ll pull the other down pretty quick. They also filled those tanks, with NAPALM, so that the Japenese could have a bit, of a HIBACHI BBQ party.[X(].A real mix and match,.Sort of, like a ,decorated, Christmas TREE.[8D]..Dummy bomb hanging there,on this one too...

When looking at photos be careful of perspective. A wide angle lens will distort things look for clues. Toe is usually not much maybe, a degree or less. I do not know Corsairs at all but I would think that much toe out would cause all sorts of taxi control problems. Looks like the bombs may have toe out also. Bottom line make sure the photo perspective is know.

Hi Dave

This question is for any one that might have an ansure, I was told today by a retired navy pilot that there is a web sight that will give you information on any given squadron, he was not sure how to find it, So any one have a clue?? I am looking for info on VF-17 to be specfic, from what I have found they are the ones that proved the F4U-1, for carrier landings.

Hi BoB.Here`s what I can tell you ,the planes you inquired about, with the the red surround got the "red" when, White bars were added to the white stars this was done on June 28th 1943 and the surround was dropped almost immediately on July 31 ,1943.Reasoning was that it was too easy to mistake a Friendly, with the round, Rising Sun markings, that the Japenese were using (Hinomaru). Do a search on Lt.EARl MAY pilot of white # 8 of VF-17,operating in BOUGAINVILLE area .See what you can find, from 1944, around JANUARY,you might find something on #3 with a red surround at that time, opperated by Ens Frederick J. Streig.from what my books are telling me the only VF-17 plane still having the red surround at that time (feb.44).wasn`t changed back for some reason...Depending on the date ,you want your plane to depict ,a red surround, can be correct on it,but for a very, short window, of time.LOOK up Ondonga, 1943. There`s some intresting ,Tail markings for some of the Vf-17, planes from that era too.I`ve got quite a bit of pics for that outfit (F4U-1 + F4U-1A)but I really haven`t been studying VF-17. There`s a LOT of history on them if you hunt .I`ll put what pictures I have in the NEW YEAR(early). If you bump into that site let me know please..HAPPY hunting..I know this type of research, can eat A lot of hours.I`m still hunting ,1 PLANE,in particular, and it`s been nearly a year now[]

Hi Dave
Was Rereading this thread and found those pic' of pylons they are great and I think I could get pertty close from them, but Dion tells me he is making (develiping) pylons and release unit for his 1/6 scale bird and they will be close enough for the T/F G/S birds, so I am going to waite for a set from him.

Also waiting you input on VF-17

Bob T

P.S. Was doing some clean up in the shop and dropped the plaster mold for the cowl scoop, have to start over[&o]

Hi BOB Sorry to hear about your mold,But you know, sometimes ,when things are done the 2`nd time, the results are better than the first time ,mainly because you`ve learned ,from the mistakes you made, the 1`st time doing the job.I guess that`s the bright side of that mishap..After this weekend I`ll post everything I have on the VF-14.It`ll probably take me ,a whole day,or two, just to post that stuff.
Dions parts seem to be really nice He seems to take a lot of pride in the things he builds, and isn`t scared, to show his stuff WORKING either..
How`s AIRBRUSH SCHOOL going..?? Unfortunately there`s no magic setup, that will work for every job, every time .JUST practice, untill you get a FEEL for things, and what the adjustments do..YOU`ll get comfortable with it,before you work on your plane as well...DAVE B.

Hi Dave

I think I have got the air brush working good now, I found the colors to use in the exhaust streak on a touch up paint rack at my local auto parts store ie: black, 2 shades of brown, (1 a tan), white and some silver.. My problem now is how to make it go absolutey flat, the counter KID did not have a clue, was going to stop at a body shop tonite and ask, but I was running late and they were closed by the time I got there so mabe tomarrow

will post pic of the cockpit in ( if I only knew) thread this w/e

Cheers bob T

P.S. Made a template of the streak put some stand offs back away from the opening and hand held in position, sprayed thru the opening and test sample came out good, planning on another sample once I figure out this flat thing...With luck I will get it good enough to put on the plane
