Another option is to make your own using water slide decal paper. If you buy it online it's pretty reasonable. Then you can print some off using your own printer!

Okay, scratch that request for help, I looks like the images uploaded after all. I didn't see them in the preview so I didn't know if I was doing it right.
Here is my build as of today.
Thanks,
Jack

RE: GROUP BUILD - Top Flite Giant Scale F4U Corsair
Hello Scott,
Just planning on building a basic plane that will look good at 100 feet and 100mph as the old saying goes. I seem to always have a lot of hangar rash if I put all of the good stuff on. Built a 501 air tractor with steps, antenas, and air schoops, but after two times at the field it was down to just air schoops. Did most builders use the wire rods for rudder and elevators or go with golden rods or fiber?

Jack,
I hear you. THat's really all I'm doing as well. I saw this note (follow link to carbon fiber pushrods) on the pushrods for a similar Corsair:

RE: GROUP BUILD - Top Flite Giant Scale F4U Corsair
I had a Ziroli Corsair that was very easy to land. My friend had a Top Flite Corsair that had to come in fairly hot and was tuff to land. If he slowed it down the wings would start to wag getting ready to stall. Is this typical of the Top Flite Corsair or did he have his tail heavy?? Just curious. It has crashed and is no longer around to play with balance cg but friend said he tried adding nose wieght to no avail????????

I have a topflite corsair and yes it seems that you have to come in a little hot on the landing approach............... My corsair is 4 years old and has many many flights but yes you have to be careful..................And your right about the Ziroli corsair my friend also has one and yes it lands a lot slower no tendency to tip stall..................He can do simple wheel landings and numerous touch and goes on the mains without any wing wagging on a very small asphalt runway...I do believe both corsairs weigh about the same but remember the Ziroli has a bigger wing......more wing area.

RE: GROUP BUILD - Top Flite Giant Scale F4U Corsair
Hello All,
I have been doing some reading about the Corsair before I get started and came across the r/c modeler review on the top flite website. This particular builder made several more modifications than the other writing for r/c report. I would like to have your opinion if these mods are necessary or just a personal preferance that is not necessary.
1. On my model, I added lead to the leading edge of the elevators as a mass balance to prevent any possibility of flutter.
2. I added two pieces of 3/4" spruce triangle to each side, a plywood reinforcement plate to the leading edge as well, and I made new rails for the retracts that went all the way to the leading edge rather than stopping short. These rails were epoxied in and then 1/8" dowel rod inserted in four places along each side into rails from the plywood mounting ribs. I have found out through experience that this area has to be strong to withstand the large G-force transferred into the area during landing. I also replaced the mounting dowels with longer 5/16" dia. ones and drilled into the spar 1/4" to locate the backside of the dowels. These are all personal choices.
3. The trailing edge of the center section where the 1/4-20 wing bolts attach the wing consisted of one piece of hardwood butt-glued at 90 degrees to a balsa trailing edge. This was then attached with only 3/32" balsa. I added a square of 3/32" ply plate and another piece of hardwood stacked on the piece provided in the kit and tapered it to fit so the pressure of the 1/4-20 mounting bolts tightened directly to the fuselage wing mounting blocks. This area must be strong if you want your airplane to survive the everyday knocks of flying
There are also some mentions of beefing up the wing spar by adding plywood to the front and back of the spars in the gull section. Is this also a good idea or is the factory setup strong enough?

Hi Spitfire66
First good luck with your build and have fun, its great to see another build going, reviewd both review's back in 05 when I built my bird and used some of the mods. There a coupla of things I would suggest plan what you do at least 3 steps ahead, as this bird may need wieght in the nose dipending on you building skills.
I know this is a big thread but it may be worth your time to skim through and just make note's to page and post # you will also find an index in post #1 that is good through about half way.
About the lead in the elevators just my opinon its not needed, you do need to harden up the area ware the metal rod goes into the elevators.
befing up the gulls is most likely a good thing, I think I would go with C/F in the spar laminate inlue of more ply, as wieght is your enemy.
You plan on the gear rails is good, the dowels are a toss up, ware the 1/4 bolts go thru just drill them over size and put in a hard wood dowel and redrill.
One last thing keep the tail section as light as possable as 1oz saved in the tail means about 6oz in the nose
sorry about being so long winded
Cheers Bob T

Progress Report....
It's been a while, but making some progress on the painting. I should have gone with an easier scheme for my first big build. These soft transition lines are a royal ..........you know.
I have a bit more cleaning up to do with the air brush, but not looking too bad. I have the decals from Cal-Grafx. They look great. I think I'll put one coat of clear on, then the decals, then a couple more coats of clear; hinge the control surfaces, then mount all the goodies.
Gary, Art,
I hope you don't mind, but I think I got a little overspray on your paint stand (this thing is great!!)

Nick
I know its a little late but next time you need to make the nice fuzzy transition lines go to your auto paint dealer and pick up some door jam mask its round foam with a sticky line, you put it on and mask to is and the side your painting cive a nice shadow effect realy take alot of the effort out of painting.
Cheers Bob T
PS finaly got in about 5 hours at the field did lots of teke offs and landings to get the thumbs working right, now if the weather hold may get the corsair out and dust it off.

Nick, she is really coming along. When do you think the maiden will be?
And as far as the paint stand goes, the overspray is an improvement.
Hey guys, I havent posted any pics in a while here are a couple from this last weekend at Warbirds Over Olkahoma.

Gary,
What's that green stuff on the runway spoiling your perfect wheel landing?

Gary, did all corsairs have the scolip cut behind the cabin and was it only on the right side? Was it there for better rear vision, or was it a air duck? Lots about a corsair that I don't know about. Jaack #55
