I sanded and adjusted until the middle spar matched the plans.

I've heard that paper can shrink and stretch with humidity and over time. It looks to me like if you slid the right hand part so that the openings for the struts matched the plans then the mating portion would almost line up. Before you cut or sand the wood I'd make sure that the parts are the things out of wack. If you hold them together do they match perfectly? If so make sure you sand both equally or not at all. One thing I'm learning is that symmetry has a lot to do with success here.

Thanks DaddySam. Well I'll just go by the plan and see how it goes. Some areas of the drawing are out by 1/8th compared to the parts and some are not. I'm keeping a close eye on things and measuring ahead so hopefully it works out. Here is some more progress on the center section. I'll try to make some ot sort of a jig for it. I sure wish I had not sold my table saw and planer.
By the way, do any of you folks have any of Dave platts videos you would like to sell or that you would lone me?

More pictures.I think that if I build another one of these I will recut all the pieces required for the center section and make the ribs interlock with the main, LE and TE spars. This way there is no room for error and no need to spend so much time measuring each bloody rib and section.
I really think Topflight dropped the ball on this section of the build.

Hi Randy

Looking good[sm=thumbs_up.gif]

Maybe you are all ready thinking of this, but if you are planning gear doors I would suggest making ribs T-3B and T-1 or at least the section between the spars out of 1/8 ply or 3/16 real hard balsa and and adding a 1/4 X 1/4 filler inbd and otbd of the respective rib, ( don't glue thes in) as you will have to relocate those section to get the box type wheel well, also at the lower surface add a1/8 doubler along T-1 and 2, spar to leadind edge this will give room/mtl for screws for the stationary cover.

One more thing the gear rails need to be shave about 3/32 to 1/8 to get the gear and screws under the lower sheeting, there are pic's back in the thread, if you can't find let me know and I can go thru my note's and see if I can locate.

cheers Bob T

Thanks for the info Bob, Those sure are some awesome looking canopies and gear info. Am I the only one working on this model?
Here is some more work on the wings. I have not altered anything yet until I have everything fitting properly. I bought some 1/4" x 1/2" maple stock for the gear area Bob and I'll go and get some 1/8" ply for the gear area this weekend.

Well looks like I screwed up. I always have problems with this and I'm not sure why. I glued the wing together last evening and it has a slight twist in it. I followed all the direction in the book and when I set it up the first time to test it, it was right on. So, doing as the book said I broke the tacks, set it back up on the dihedral jig and glued it. I left it overnight so nothing would move but it looks like I got a twist in it anyway.
Can someone help me?
Thanks

Randy

As long as you still have the tab's on the rib's not yo worry, you can make sure you get your wash out when you put on the sheeting, as I recall it works out to be 1 1/2 deg's just make sure you are using the same refferance line on both sides/ends.
If you have an incidance meter use that to check every thing.

Once you have the upper skins on it is time to think about the wing tip mod (lower surface) tapper T-5 to T-7 an easy mod just requires some planning.

Hope this helps

Cheers Bob T

Ok thats a relief, thanks Bob. I really was not looking forward topulling it all apart.I was thinking of doing the wing tip mod, thank you for reminding me. I saved the info from the posts that you found, thanks. One other thing is the leading edge of the wing. Did you add a triangle piece or extra wood to theface of the leading edge to make it easier to round off?

I did not add any tri stock that I remember, but I did make card stock templates at T-1 , T-5 and T-7 as I shaped those positinos first and then an old old razor plain to go between and long sanding blocks for final shaping. to get the same profile's on the outher side.

cheers bob t

Did any of you that used the g62 purchase the engine mount that you can get for it. I'm not talking about the plate that comes with the engine.
Thanks.

Not me back in the thread I show a bell mount and a spring starter, I also have jump starts on both of my 62's due to my (arther-i-tus) its the pits when you can't flip it thru more than 10 times, But you still have to make clearnce for the aft shaft.
