Greetings Folks - I've been lurking, watching, reading, compairing, following this thread for quite some time and as a result I have a GTF Corsair box open, sitting on my work bench. I'm a slow builder but was wondering if I could join the brotherhood?

Heeeeeeelp.
Ok it seems every time I get going on something the measurements don't work out. I'm trying mount the isolation mount on the firewall using the instructions and template but the dashed lines do not line up with the thrust line on the plans. I'm using the G62. The other thing I noticed is that if you use the Isolation plate itadd's another 5/8" to the length ofthe engine to the hub.Should Imount the firewall farther in the fuse and then trim the excess or havesomeone make me a shorter hub.Can anyone help?

P.S. That measurement is 7.25 but that can change depending on how you decide to mount your cowl.

OK thanks. Dang it. I'm getting tired of having to keep modifying things. Does a guy really need the isolation mount?I wonder what it will cost me to have a new hub made.

Well I'm just going to continue with the build and say screw it to the mount. If it sticks out so be it. I'll worry about it later.

Randy

Your are doing fine this is a build and you can make all kinds of change to fit your needs, and if you need more pic's of the front end just say so.

Depending upon if you're going to use the radial engine in front of the G62, you'll want the hub to clear the cowl while at the same time the plastic radial should not be up against the motor. I used the G62 without a soft mount and used the B&B 1" extension for the hub.

Well I don't usually chime in much as I'm kind of a lurker....

Got all, or most of the parts for my Corsair but no real place to build the thing and so I tend to play mostly with GS IMAC birds.

That said; you won't find any isolation mounts on any of those big gassers. The general concensus from those folks is that an isolation mount can create more problems than it might solve.

I've been flying 'em for about 5 years now and haven't had any issues. I'll include a picture of my latest model which is a Comp-Arf 2.6 Extra 260 running a DA-120 and you can see it's hard mounted.

mrrandyman, take a second look at your photos. The second shows you measurind from the back of the engine. What about that three quarters of an inch of rubber. Also in my opinion the iso mount saves a lot of vibration from transfering to the airframe.

Oh. I was just showing the difference in length of the two engines. I tookthe mount into consideration. I installed the isolation mount and the engine and stuck her on the frame. It looks like it will be fine and have been told the same also. Now I can relax. I need a chill pill. lol

Randy

The G-62 is a bit of a thumper at low rsssss and with the ISO mounts tighterned up correctly they are all most solid, just some info last spring when I had the engine off to service the spring start they did show some movement so IMHO they do save the air frame a bit.

Could some of you tell me what tool or tools you use in making lightning holes?
In the past I've scribed circles then ground out with a small grinder. Not to proffessional looking. From the pictures I'm sure someone has a better way.
Thanks
