Ok Yallll

I have my G-38 soft mounted, I am using what used to be called loard mounts they are 7/8 in dia. with a 1/4-20 stud on one side and a 1/4 -20 nut on the other, the way I use them is to start at the crank center projected back onto a 1/8 thick aluminum plate, I then take the maximun dia of room about 2 to 21/2 inches make a circle and pick 4 points at equal distance around that circle basically you now have an X intersecting the circle, put 1 point at one of the intersection points, at the 180 position from there move in and to one side 1/4, on th other x line put a point on line but 1/8 inbd, and the last point put it online but outbd 1/8, by doing this you will not set up any harmonics, I have been using this set up for seventeen years and it has never failed. With these gasers at some point they all shake but you generally go through that point and not realize it.

Wish I had a scanner a sketch would be great.

Cheers Bob T

P.S. My G-62 is also soft mounted similar pattern but different mounts.

Zeeb You are right about that servo # thanks some one has to keep me stright

ok guys I need some advice on how to hide the hinge line on the wing . First how far in do i go in to the trailing edge and about what size radiuse. second to hide the flaps hinge line do i do the same thing as in carving in to the trailing edge ? With my thinking you can only cover the top of the hinges on the flaps and get them to workand you dont need to carve into the trailing edge to do that? am i right . spent a lot of time on this wing dont want to mess it up had to duplicate splitezs work on the wing ribs to good an idea not to use hope he doesnt mind

Guy's

I think you missed something. I really wanted to know if using a spring starter reduces the interference over using the electronic ignition. The other stuff you said helped me but I was hoping for an answer about Spring Starter vs Electronic Ignition!!!

Thanks,

Gibbs

A SPRING STARTER MEANS YOU CAN MOUNT THE THROTTLE SERvO ON THE FIREWALL FOR AN EASY CONNECTION. Ive done this with my g-46 no interference elctronic ignition requires another battery pack that you need to charge . I just run off the mags on the engine. the spring starter has never bitten me and never given me any problems in over 3 years of steady use.

Has anyone sent their G62 to Ralph for the conversion? If you have did you have him make the prop shaft a certain length so it was just right for the Corsair? Or did you have him make it short and add plywood to the firewall to make it right? Which way is better. Remember this is my first gas plane. I don't know squat about what Ralph does or how it needs to be set up other than what you have told me in your posts.

For the best info go to (Royal Corsair .60 project) I don't remember the post # but as I think about it they were in the first few pages, or try (1-8 scale topflite corsair mods). These threads have a lot of great info.

Gibbs
I have never had any interference problem with my spring start on ether engine. and I think with any engine mod you would still have to build the fire wall to match the engine length, unless you have a special prop adapter made.

Tim
If you use a keleco (spelling) I don't think you would have room for a servo on the fire wall, but I may try for it on my next build.

Hope this dose not muddy water to bad

Tim and Bob,

I'm getting the custom exhaust for mine. Bob you must already have it. How does it look? How and where do the three pipes exit the Cowling? I think the guy's name is Kelvin thats making the aluminum exhaust for me. Can't remember the company he owns. I have it bookmarked so I can find it when I'm ready to have it made. He told me I would need to send him a mock up of the firewall and also send him the engine. I don't like that idea. Let me know for sure where you got yours Bob. He charges $250.00 for his exhaust. How much did yours cost if you don't mind me asking? I just got my G62 a few minutes ago. I am amazed at the size of this thing. It sure looks like high quality workmanship went into building it.

Tim,

Will the throttle servo still be able to be mounted on the firewall with the custom exhaust?

Thanks both of you,

Gibbs

just mount on the top of the firewall. make sure its a quality servo and vibration isolate with rubber. I think with the g-62 ill rubbermount the engine as the vibration will rattle the scale cockpilt im spending 2 weeks on the pieces. im using aquarium sealer to mount most the sections but some have to be super glued / An iso mount may not be a bad idea. mamke sure you double the firewall to 1/2 inch for a g-62

A mock up is easy just use blocks of balsa, drill one to fit exhaust port bolt in place and add blocks to get what you think is right, I would use a piece of sylicone tube between the header and the ports to take up the engine vib's.. mabe I can make a sketch ..

The referance books and pic's show the ports as followes as close as I can tell on the F4U-1 with 2000 hp engine the ports were at about 5 and 7 o'clock on the -4 with the 2450 hp engine with the new ehaust system they were at about 3, 6:30 and ( o'clock, also they come out of the fuse just behind the fire wall so you will have to make some structual changes..

ive done tests using brass tubing and jb weld. i used gas stove line to run from the muffler ends(cut down a bit) to the scale exhaust and it holds up very well. no need to weld or braze. exhaust gasses are hottest in the combustion chamber then the muffler box by the time it hits the brass its cool enough not to melt the jb weld. i also used high temp gasket sealer to deal with leaks.

Hey,

When somebody gets a picture of their custom exhaust please post a few pic's so I can see if I can make it myself.

Thanks,

Hi gibbs

I made a mock up of bals blocks, and went to my LHS and ask a few questions got a phone number of a machinest that just happens to be an RCer showed him my mock up he said come back in a week, and what you see is what I got our club had a welder so the rest is history I did ask if he would be intersted makeing more and he just dose not have the time in his machine shop, so the next go around for me I eill have to find a new shop or go to Keleco.

From the referance books and Pic I have for a F4U-1A thru D with the 2000 hp engine the ports shoud be at about 4:30 and 7:30 o'clock and then on the -4s with the 2450 and up they would be at about 3, 6:30 and 9 o'clock, also they would come out of the fuse just behind the fire wall on all of them so you would have to make some structual changes. With the busy weeks ahead I will try to make a sketch of what I see they should be. bot for a quicker ansure go to (royal corsait .60 projert) or (1-8 scale topflight mods) Threads These fellows have been there and done it

Hey Bob if you put the exuast at 3 and 9 oclock wont you have to cut in to the main hardwood spar that runs the lenght of the fuse just a question ?what can be done about the heat the pipes will create that close to the wood. will it cause the fiberglass to blister

Cimara

That is why I said there will have to be some structural mods made if you want true scale, but for ( fun scale) I think some miner mod could be made relatively easy and still come up with something that would look great. It would be nice to have some vought corsair dwg's on this or some P & W's and some pic of a full size bird

I just wish some of the fellows with more knowledge would jump in and share.

Here is what I am modeling for the 1/8 scale build and a couple of shots of what Kelvin came up with for the OS 120. I'm not far enough along with the build to have strong opinions about how well this is going to work. My only initial ask would have been for him to make the exhaust stacks a little longer to allow some more wiggle room in the installation. They would be easy enough to trim to length.
