Don't despair just yet. Look around on line. While they are asking a pretty price it seems that there are a few still on the market.

http://www.chiefaircraft.com/rcmsec/...underbolt.html

Also looks like there is one NIB for $575 in the for sale section.

I got lucky, about three months ago my LHS decided to deep discount everything that had been on the shelf for a while. Picked one up for $249.

That sucks. I didn't know that Horizon discontinued the 1.50 p-47. [&o] I guess that I will have to be really careful with mine. I hope that this means they will come out with a new release that is better that this bird. That is too bad for those people who are reading this forum deciding weather to buy this plane or not.

On a much happier note that is one very nice looking 47 you got there fytrjok. If you weren't fibbing and that is your wife's plane than she is one cool wife! Did you paint over the monokote or did you strip and glass it? Whatever method you used you did a wonderful job!

with much jealousy,

Mike

Thanks Mike! Yep, it's hers...she was the highest bidder at the Top Gun banquet auction about three years ago. I think she got it for $425 or so. We had the engine in her Platt Spitty that was lost last year. After much procrastination and some engine repair, I finished my other projects and started on the P47. The finish is simply a little paint and flitemetal over the sanded stock covering. I'm really looking foreward to getting her up in the air. Don't tell my wife that H9 has discontinued the kit...she'll never let me fly it!!

That is neat. I am really interested in your finishing teqnique and would like to do something similar with mine. Since you put it together and did such a wonderful job on the finish she would have to let you fly it. From what I hear you should be in for a real treat when you fly her!

Good Luck!! ( and don't forget to give us flight pics!!)

It looks as if the P-47 150 is still available on the Hangar 9 web site. Not sure what the deal is here.

What the guys at Horizon have told me to do is to go to Google, enter the H9 part number of the kit you're looking for, and Google it. A list of shops that MAY have one will come up. Then start calling. I found both my 80" Pawnee and B25 that way, so it works! At least sometimes....
Good luck
Al

The way the cost of doing business in China has been going, it is a good thing to discontinue this kit - no one could afford a 'new' one! Some ARF's have gone up $200!!!

Fortunately, I got mine
It's almost ready to fly with his Cyclon 160 and his 12s2p a123.
The only critical part was the retract[:@]
Hope I will not break it on grass.
Next will be the B25, if they don't drop it too soon.

Hopefully after the olympics are over the factories will let loose, poor out the black smoke and china will start chugging along again producing things the good old chinease way! (CHEAP) You just gotta love it.

This is what I'm using with G38 and 18x10 prop.

Same one I used. Are you actually planning on putting a 50cc in her? Gonna be overkill I'm afraid and you'll definitely have some structural things to deal with. G38's seem about the biggest that would be feasable. I went with the G26 and 17x8 prop. She flies beautiful. Lands on her toes and slows down with no flaps. She's never fallen out of the sky yet. Yet in the air she's about as scale as you'd want.

I don't think that there will be structural issues. If I was planning on doing something like a full throttle dive followed by full up elevator then, yes there would be a major mess to clean up after I crater my bird into the ground due to a folded wing. On the other hand, if use my head and fly at 1/4 to 1/2 throttle saving full throttle for climbs and when I need it, then I think that it will be ok. If it is a weight issue then I will definately not have any problems because the DA 50 is about 1 and 1/4 lbs lighter than a g38. [X(] I do appreciate your concern though.

DA50 will be fine. You could even run a big 4 bladed prop and hang some working bombs etc and still do beeg loops.

It would be really cool if they were really "working" bombs that could blow stuff up. That would be sweet to leave small crators all over the place. I don't think it could ever be done safely or leagally though and something tells me that AMA would not be very happy about it.

MESSAGE FOR MAXIMUS!!

Hi Maximus,

I am just going down the same road as you, regarding my Hangar 9 P47, i.e custom air retracts and 4.5" wheels.
However, in briefly looking tonight, it is obvious to me that I will need to have shorter struts than stock in order to clear rib 2.

Could you do me a big favour? I need to know how long your struts are, could you be a mate and measure your length on the yellow line?

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Neil.

p.s What a model eh??

Question for those of you useing the Shindin replacement struts. How did you mount your tire hubs to the Shindin struts. The hole in the stock hubs are too small to fit on the Shindin struts. Did you drill out the hole in the hub to fit the struts?
