Does anyone have this bird with the Fugi 43cc? I have a spare on laying around and was thinking about assembling this bird this Winter with the Fugi. Kind of sounds like it might be too much engine for this plane. Thanxs, Jerry.

One other thing, after getting a headache reading all these pages. Is the general opinion that the retracts that come with the kit are decent and the only thing I need to do is upgrade the struts? I have the H9 HellCat and I can tell you those retracts are a major pain in my you know what. Seems like every day of flying requires some amount of tweaking on those retracts. Thanxs, Jerry.

RE: New 81" P-47 ARF coming from Hangar 9
Hi Guy's
I thought I'd share my finding Flying the H9 1.50 P-47 today with you.
Mine weights a realistic weight of 17.8 lbs and it has digital servos on all control surfaces. Overkill yes but they were in stock in my parts been.
Power is a Saito 220 Prop a Bela 18 * 8
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ++++++++++++
1st Flight
First Take off she was Airborne in approx 50 feet.
Because of the elevator design I thought I had set the neutral point correctly however it was actually about plus 1 degree so it took 4 clicks of down elevator.
The Saito 220 easily fly's the Model and 1/2 power is scale speed. Problem is the Saito is actually a bit quiet compared to Gas motors.
1st Landing no flaps lands like a trainer and there were no Gear or strut problems.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ++
2nd Flight
Now using the Takeoff Flap setting the P-47 was Airborne in about 30 feet. No Pitch changes on Flap retraction I do run a 1 degree down Pitch with 20 degrees of Flap and with 40 degrees 3 degrees down on the elevator and this setup is perfect.
This is setup on my radio as a Flap to elevator Mix.
Roll 360 degree in approx 1 sec pretty good for a War bird no doubt. Next several Loops tight or big the machine tracks perfect. The Saito can actually pull the P-47 straight up for 300 feet before I use the Rudder to Hammerhead out.
Here is one maneuver we don't see Warbirds doing Knife Edge Flight. On the deck the Rudder was fully deflected and I couldn't really keep it 90 degrees without some Aileron input but not bad at all. After I straighted up and went Vertical I decided to see if the P-47 could Snap on the up-line and to my surprise it actually did a small snap.
Back to the standard flying starting with a Slow Dirty Fly Bye. The speed can be described as a fast walking pace and rock solid stable.
At the Runway end I cleaned up Flaps and Gear then hammered it down wind for some on the deck Fly byes. Very stable and nice presentation in Flight. Again the Saito 220 is very quiet compared to Gas motors.
Next overhead break deployed the Gear and Flaps and made a very gentle touch down again No Gear or Strut problems.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ +++++++++++++++++++++++++++
3rd Flight
Take Off Flaps were used again and she was Airborne in 30 feet once again. Gear retracted and Flaps up she went Vertical and any P-47 Pilot would want to have this performance.
Several more Loops and rolls along with numerous low Passes and I am starting to get a bit bored because what else can I do with it.
Out of the Last loop bout Mid field finally a test I notice the Right wheel is down and then the Left followed by a dead Motor. Whew Hoo I keep the nose pointed slightly down still have full control and make a short approach turning final right over the numbers on our 600 foot runway I am about 15 feet in the air and have it made. This P-47 is lightly Wing loaded for a War Bird and makes anyone look good she is very Gentle.
She touches down perfectly and comes to a stop.
OK so what went wrong why did the Gear deploy and the Engine quit.
The receiver is the 5014 from Futuba the one that comes with the 14Mz it was sitting around and I needed the 10 channels so I used it. Seems I took a Hit on the exit of the loop and my Gear was programmed when I enter Fail Safe to Lower. My Throttle was programed to go to Idle and the Kill. The Glitch only happened for a few seconds and when the engine quit I deployed the Gear via the switch so thats why it stayed down after the Fail Safe recovery.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ +++++++++++++++++++
For those of you that haven't flown this Jug your going to really like it if you like Warbirds.
It looks good and I'll leave it in my collection but I think I need to have Bombs and stuff that drop next.
Ian

67 pages is alot to read through, so sorry if this has been addressed, but what retract servos are guys using for futaba or hitech radios?
I just got mine and it sure is big. And shiney. I dont mind the colors at all and with some automotive flat clear, I think the plane will look perfect. It looks like a real easy build too. I am using a moki 2.10 for it. Should move out quite nicely. I'm impressed so far.
anyways, any ideas on retract servos for Futaba?
thanks

There is a lot of information in this long thread, that is why it is long. Read it and I bet all of your questions will have been asked and answered.
I know that I could just answer his question, but this seems to be a common issue in most of the long threads here on RCU. Many of us follow the threads with our own builds from the beginning and hash out all of the details, mods, mistakes, etc. What would it hurt to take a couple of nights and read the thread and do the research on a plane? I do it before I even purchase a new plane, to make sure that all of the issues make it worth while.

most have agreed that the JR is the better option but they are higher in price than hiteck altho both will work if properly set up

Du-Bro HD plastic servo arms also work. I've two P-47s, both with JR-791 servos. One uses the HD Du-bro plastic while the other has JR- metal arms.

RE: New 81" P-47 ARF coming from Hangar 9
Hi All
Just to let everyone know Robart is going to have retract kit very soon for the H9-P-47-150. I called them a couple of weeks ago to ask if they have a set for the H9-P-47 Doug at Robart stated that they want to make a set but they needed a wing so they could make the gear for it. I told them they where in luck I live only a few miles from them and would be happy to drop the wing off to them. I just pickup the new gear yesterday and they are awsome!! The struts are a Beefy 3/8" dia. and the retract mech. I picked is an air up/down all metal unit. You can also get a air up/spring down unit. I took a couple of pic's sorry my good camera was at work I'll take some better ones and post later to night. So if your interested give Robart a call.

Is this a straight drop-in? No shimming, trimming, engineering etc needed?
If it is, anyone wanna buy a pair of the JR791 retract servos for the H9 retracts?
